GEOh: I see Dick Smith have them for sale, if purchasing from their website does customs duty + GST get charged?

B&H (USA) are also offering $100 store credit with each Pixel 3a purchased which does offset the duty/GST somewhat.

Yes you get hit with customs honestly the best way to get it would be from JB HI FI in Aussie and have it shipped here, they supposedly provide warranty on it through the jbhifi here, not tested though, or wait for pbtech but they don't seem interested in pixel since the whole Nexus 5x and 6p mess.

Have a family member going to Aus next week so JB Hifi it is! If they bring it with them you only have to declare goods if over $700 right?

Just put your SIM card in it and bring it in as used.

The prices on the Dick Smith website are in almost in all cases all you will pay (apart from a small delivery fee of $13.99 in the case of the Pixel 3a).  They include GST and import duty.  Getting them from the USA however, you will get charged duty/gst by customs.

And this is supposed to be their affordable phone? That's a lot of money for an all plastic gadget.

A decent plastic (polycarbonate) is less susceptible to damage than glass anyway.

Google's RRP of $399 USD ($610 NZD) is pretty good for a phone with a flagship level camera. Granted it gets more expensive here after import fees.

I'm hopeful (but not overly so) that the price will get discounted - before my Nexus 5x dies.

The Nexus 5x was about the same price as the Pixel 3a when first released.  I think I paid NZ$400, a few months before it was discontinued.

You still and use your 5x?! Thats amazing ๐Ÿ˜œ My 5X died/bootlooped pretty much one year after purchase

But yeah. I was gonna get a s10e (in vomit yellow) to replace my iphone 7 But am now totally looking at a pixel 3a. ๐Ÿ‘

I really like clean android which has none of the rubbish that Samsung chucks in.

Hopefully the 3a series wont be too hard to get a hold of in NZ

I wonder if my 5x didn't develop the boot loop issue because it was at the tail end of production and LG had quietly fixed the issue. I say quietly, as if they announced it, then that's an admission of liability they wouldn't want to make.

Maybe it's just me, but I'm less convinced that stock android saves much - apart from not having Bixby and other annoying crap that fall just short of being deal breakers. Google seem to be just as annoyingly invasive. My 5x, assorted updates to Google apps, features get added, notifications reset themselves on. We're selling our souls for wooden nickels in every case, just to different devils.

Purchased a 3a (standard, not XL version) via Google Singapore, shipped to the hotel I am staying at
Money has already been taken, so fingers crossed it all goes smoothly.

Been delivered ... now I wait a week to see if it is actually there when I arrive at the hotel

I didn't even think about seeing what it would cost me to get via any of the Amazon's

I'm very tempted to pick one of these up in the UK. They are throwing in free Chromebooks or Google home hubs depending on the retailer, trouble is I need to get the free goods delivered which I'm not there long enough to receive, and then is be bringing them back here, could be interesting discussion with customs.

Confirmed that the Pixel 3a is waiting for me at the hotel, they finally got back to me

I received a free Home Hub Mini, but I will be leaving that in the hotel for anyone to claim - I have zero interest in a connected house, seeing as I don't have a house :-)

Nice! I just placed an order through JB Hifi click and collect, family member collecting in Aus, so should be with me shortly.

The naming conventions are a bit confusing now but by 'Home Hub Mini' do you mean the Home Hub (screen/speaker) or the Home Mini (mini speaker)? Sure you don't wanna sell it, to me!?
