I recently noticed that a Super Steady icon had appeared on the top menu bar in the camera.

Curious, I thought I'd give it a try. Imagine my surprise when the footage turned out jumpy and jittery with a dose of rolling shutter for good measure. Even when the phone and subject are actually stationary.

It doesn't happen for video where the SS is not on.

At a guess it's a fault in the lens stabilisation if it's being done with mechanical means. If it's software only then I've no idea.

Anyone else getting it?

Following a long support call, the opinion is that it may be a fault in the stabilisation unit in the camera.

Next stop, Vodafone shop.

I tested with mine and it's steady - works well.

Hope Samsung or Vodafone can resolve the issue for you.

I took it into the VF store in Wellington on Saturday.

They were as confused by the behaviour as me, so it has gone off under warranty for service. If they tell me what was wrong with it, I will report.

Biggest PITA is going to be getting it back reset to factory and having to spend days fettling it back the way it was!

Call from VF shop today.

It's back already. I asked what was wrong and the lady said that as far as she could tell, they just replaced the camera module and tested the unit.

Question:

I presume that it correct to expect the same handset waterproofing standards post-repair as pre-repair, given that it is an official warranty repair etc?

Phone in hand. Seems fine. Amused that the tech left the test videos of their office on the phone....

Linux: Correct

Good to know. Having seen those tear down videos, you do wonder how easy it is to reassemble one properly!
