I want to upgrade my Galaxy S7,

but don't want a new flagship phone, (maybe the only upgrade is a new flagship phone) just a mid ranger, does anyone know about the Oppo Reno Z, 2Dgrees have a deal on it at the moment.

I know it does not have all the features as the S7, but it is stuck on Android 8, the Opp's CPU is a bit quicker, don't know about the GPU as can't find any info on it (I don't play games on my phone) and the Oppo has a nice big amoled screen, Android 9, in screen finger print reader.

Thought's please and if not Oppo Reno Z, anything else anyone can suggest.

Thanks

The Reno Z has a less mainstream Mediatek Helio P90 CPU (as opposed to a Snapdragon silicon) with PowerVR as GPU (rather than Adreno) but as you said it's a mid ranger and you don't play games on your phone so the CPU & GPU should be able to handle everyday task just fine.

With the screen being AMOLED on full HD+ resolution along with a over 4000mAH battery, should provide good battery life.

Can't complain for a $700 phone.

I see the Note 9 is on special for $649 with a 2D contract, might look at that instead.

If all you want is Android 9. You could load TWRP on to your phone and flash one of the Note FE ported roms like Black diamond or TeamExyKings. Won't cost you a cent. There's nothing wrong with the s7 hardware, still runs like a charm.

Thanks, yes the S7 still works fine and does not lag at all (even with all the crap I got installed), had a look at the Note 9 yesterday and very nice screen, but was very big in the hand and in pocket..... so not to sure yet.

Ended up getting a Xiaomi Mi 9T from PB Tech $539, see how that goes.

Awesome phone, (Xiaomi Mi 9T) very happy with it, faster than the S7, nice big "all" screen (people look at it when I'm using it), charges fast (big battery), camera better than S7 (not in low light though), do miss wireless charging a bit, but overall a great mid range phone.

Now what to do with the S7.....
