I am looking for people with Android to test an application I recently submitted to the Android Market. I have a stock Nexus One which I test on but I need people of all sorts of versions and skins.

Maybe some of you who are kind and willing to help can test the app for me. Without leaving comments or ratings unless it works

It's available via the market, just search SMS Safe or use this link

Please send through any bug reports that you come across. Thank you!

Blurb

This app is intended for you to hide secret/confidential messages from others or just keep messages you want in an archive.

This app will move messages you select permanently to its internal database so that they are only accessible via this app when a password is entered. We copy the message details into our internal database then delete the message from the main Android messaging app.

You cannot move messages back due to limitation of the Android OS. We are working on ways to be able to unhide your messages.

Use the Show SMS screen to scroll through your contacts and messages then select messages to hide.

Use the Show Hidden SMS screen to scroll through hidden messages.

Use the Preferences window to change your password.

Will try it on HTC Desire and Wildfire and let you know.

I'd like to suggest another (similar idea)

Choose a contact(s) (aka mistress) that you want all messages to be hidden from

When you receive a message from the mistress it will automatically add the message to the conversation thread in the vault and delete the message from the android inbox. There will also be a notification that the vault has a message waiting in the notification bar.

You can enter the vault with a password or lock screen type swipe. Inside the vault you can click on any 'mistress' and view the conversation thread. If you click reply it will open the new message function to create a text message to that contact using the default android messaging app. Once the message is sent the vault app will automatically append the text from the sent message into the conversation thread in the vault and it will delete the sent message from the android messaging app history.

This would be a lot more functionally useful than just being able to archieve text messages.

PS. I should also add that personally I currently have no need for this application :) :)

Have you had a chance to test on the Wildfire? I've had a few complaints from people that it doesn't work on there.

Or the "Female friend that my GF has an irrational jealous dislike of and it would save having to explain why she is sending me random texts" app But you might need an acronym for that.

I would use it just to avoid the accusations.

LOL!

+1 - I need an app that can do that too ;-)

But it should be the female friends (multiple).....

I would pay for an app like that!

Hey Marak, works fine on my Desire, will try the Woldfire over the weekend if I can get it off my wife for long enough. Once an SMS is hidden is there a way to move it back into the normal message app?

The original post said that can't be done due to the limitation of the Android OS.

I would prefer one that hid the messages on arrival rather than needing to be moved. I would rather not have the opportunity for them to be seen by someone else before I saw them.

Actually turns out its possible.. but it just means that we'd have to recreate it in the main messaging app.

We are also working on auto hide based on contacts.

Wouldn't be bad, my ex and my current GF absolutely loath each-other but I still get on well with the ex. Just to save arguments, this isn't a bad idea.

For the purposes of hiding texts from the person you're cheating on someone with, also good, but sure as heck not to be encouraged.

There is one on the markey called Shady something or other that apparently auto-filters. it's about $10 odd but the reviews are quite good.
Ones like "Yay no more, ""who's texting you at this time of night?"" or similar
