Yes, maybe 12 months is required because of local law.  With regards to the CGA 1993, is must last a "reasonable" length of time under normal usage.  Getting remedies under the act for faulty units can often require going through the Disputes Tribunal depending on the company.

However as PottsNZ has stated, that is a topic for another thread to cover.

Yeah was just curious suddenly. I kind of want to play with one of these to see how it compares to my Galaxy S

I'm keen on getting a new android but can't decide (have Vodafone 845 but finding it too small and annoying)

X5 interests me a lot because:

Pros:
- new hardware (particularly like the Adreno 205 GPU)
- 2.2
- and looks nice
- large capacity battery? 1500ma is large I think?
- Price

Cons... Pretty much the only things stopping me from buying it right now:
- May not get further updates? 2.3+
- Doesn't seem to be any mods/roms for it

Have been recommended to buy HTC Desire or Nexus One

Pros:
- Awesome modding comminity
- Desire has a battery efficient modded kernal that's supposedly pretty amazing. Short battery life irritates me so this is a big plus
- Updates

Cons
- Older hardware
- Don't particularly like the look of Desire
- Higher price

Opinions?

Im in the same boat, and just purchased a X5 this morning to replace my 845. Came close to getting a Desire, but couldnt really justify the higher price for what I need.

Build quality on the x5 is definately an improvement on the 845, the rubberised back is a nice touch. Screen has great colours.

Looks great so far, but anything is good compared to the 845

For $175 I don't think it's really supposed to be up there competing with iPhones/Galaxy etc.

I bought the 845 as an Android test phone and have been pretty amazed by it's capabilities.

Please can some of you who have bought one (X5 I mean) give an idea of it's actual real world performance in terms of battery life, speed, music/video capabilities etc.

All the bells and whistles to me are just that

I just called DSE, looks like early next month? Was planning on getting a dual core phone but I don't think I can hold out any longer. Been looking at phones for 2 months now and I always find a better one which is coming out "soon".

Can anyone suggest a place for me to buy one of these? (In Dunedin) Or should I order it from the 2? online store?

Thanks

I ordered one yesterday from the 2 degrees online store, it arrived before 8am today, so I would recommend just buying it online.

Really like it so far, seems fast and responsive, but this is my first smartphone so don't have much basis for comparison.

Played a video file using Rock Player and the playback was sweet - (file info: RIFF (little-endian) data, AVI, 512 x 384, 23.98 fps, video: DivX 3 Low-Motion, audio: MPEG-1 Layer 3 (stereo, 48000 Hz)).

I just noticed that the Ideos X5 is currently priced at $349 (AUSD) on the Australian site for Dick Smith Electronics, which works out at about $460 New Zealand. As 2 degrees are charging about $550 in New Zealand, does anyone suspect a bit of regional profiteering going on? Is it more sensible to wait 2 months for the price to drop by at least a third (like the original Ideos)?
Don't get me wrong, I like the look of it, but I don't like being taken for a mug by a Telco...

NZ almost always has higher prices than Aus, might be partially due to GST but also I guess shipping costs and economies of scale meaning they can sell it cheaper there.

It's like anything early adopters are stung but if you want to be the first to own one then you'll pay full price.

The galaxy 5 dropped 40% in price between it's launch in December to the boxing day sales, however I wouldn't expect to see such a drop in the X5.

There will also be a lot of people selling them in a couple of weeks after the text me race so you might be able to pick up one cheaper on TM.

I know...I recently picked up a brand new Ideos 8150 for $120! I think I'll be waiting a while for its big brother, but the better spec (and bigger screen in particular) is tempting.

What can I say for $120? A bargain! I like it, and it works really well within its limits (and if you have tiny fingers!) but definitely will be looking to upgrade to a bigger screen/better spec/better camera as the prices come down. I'll watch the prices on the X5 (and other similar midrange spec phones) with interest over the next few months...anyone seen the ZTE skate?
