I just received an invitation to pre-order a Notion Ink Adam in the next shipment.

Unfortunately I can't afford it at the moment so it looks like I'll have to let the option go. If anyone out there wants to take the order in my place (I presume that is possible)- just change the shipping address you can let me know.

FWIW the PixelQ version with Wifi/3G works out at just on US$600 including postage but you would need to budget for a possible bite from the GST man.

I must say it looks quite promising but it may be early days so far.

I have received a 2nd pre order invite also after not using my 1st pre order invite.

I was really excited about getting one of these devices until it was time to purchase. I now realise the device will not be popular enough to have the likes of steve from cyanogen produce a mod for it.

The most benefit I get out of my Nexus One is from using his Mod, and I don't want to buy another IPAD type restricted device.

Just be sure you understand what you are getting. A good soc with lots of memory and very little storage in a medium-low end package with a fairly low end lcd screen. From what I have seen the pixel qi isnt even a real option. I was super keen for one but went off it as soon as I saw the ui. Then completely off when I saw user videos.
One of the cheaper varients might be an ok buy. The problem is by the time you add the extra sd card to get the storage up with the competition you start getting up there in price and are left with worse build quality and screen and your only real benefit being extra usb ports that most people probably wont use. If they do it would be for a small percentage of time as it defeats the purpose of the form factor.
In its current state you are better off waiting to see what the competition offers IMO and by then maybe if they havnt gone under it will at least be usable without modification.

Lcd screens are fairly cheap with low viewing angles

Pixel qi only works in best ambient lighting conditions. Which means only outdoors in sunlight. There are no real powersaving advantages inside. Has poor viewing angles. Screen blotchiness. Low contrast and light bleeding from the sides. Then just to make life awesome a glossy screen.

Camera feels like the weakest link with a flimsy construction and you cant use it with the adam flat on table (pointing at self)so you still have to pick it up if skyping someone anyway. Good if you have a view and want to record lectures I guess as suggested by notion ink?

They use vinyl finish around the sides.(just plain cheap imo)

Comfortable to use and hold in portrait but no one seems to use it like that anyway.

Home back etc buttons can get in way when holding in landscape and no way to see in dark.

Despite what website claims it doesnt have a matte screen or replaceable battery.

SO far support has been bad for most with problems and while they will probably eventually refund it, expect to email them a few million times and wait a week or two.

Eden isnt a usable UI IMO
