I thought this would be the year that I bite the bullet, and purchase a high-end smart phone...

I've been looking at the HTC Incredible S, HTC Desire HD, HTC Desire S...

I want the phone to have at least 1GHz, it has to work on Telecom XT, 512MB RAM +, Front & back camera, large screen, Android that will be upgradeable to 2.3, GPS, Voice to Text -- the last two won't probably change much...

The Incredible S won't work on XT - and I've found out there are no plans to make a 850MHz version.

The HTC Desire HD is nice, although it doesn't have a front facing camera (and is it a little outdated now? - will it be upgradeable to Gingerbread?)

The Desire S screen may be a little too small, not sure, will look at this one more soon...

I've also had a look at the HTC Inspire 4G.... But looking at the tech specs it looks like it will work on XT as well.

HTC Thunderbolt would be good, but once again, not XT compatible.

Getting the theme here of HTC phones? :P

Or, if you know of any up and coming phones, please let me know!

CHEERS!

Desire HD is still pretty current, It has a smaller battery than a lot of other similar phones though.

Yeah, after a LOT more research... I've decided to hold off until the HTC Pyramid.... Sounds promising.... Whether it will be available for XT, I don't know... I doubt it.

Waiting can take forever......

If you've decided to dive in the Android pool, why not just go on in and get wet with whats there now.
Y'ain't gonna learn the 'hi-end' strokes till you gets ya feet wet....

Pickings are rather slim for XT.

I'm in the same boat at the moment, you might find this site handy:

I'm pretty close to picking up a Desire HD, battery life is the only downside I think.

I think the Motorola Atrix is a pretty good Android phone for the XT network, dual-core, 5MP camera, etc. etc.

Desire HD or normal Desire?

What's the difference between these two?:

One is a Telus (Canada) branded DHD and one is an AT&T version of the DHD that's being sold in the states as the Inspire 4G. Supposedly the only difference in the actual hardware is that the Inspire version has 4GB of internal memory while the regular DHD has 1.5. Also from what I've read most of the DHD roms or software will work fine on the Inspire 4G, but there might be some compatibility things there.

I had a friend in London pick up a 1500mah battery for her Desire HD. Added no extra bulk and now she can get through the day. Don't let the battery dissuade you from getting the HD. There are always solutions to problems.
