Ive been trying update my phone to the cynagenmod seen the official update doesn't seem to be coming  but have been having a bit of trouble.
it keeps aborting when i try to apply the update.zip to get into openrecovery. is it because it is not rooted correctly? and if so how can i root it on a mac

use this guide here:

I've recently just bought a Milestone as well, on Monday in fact. It's my very first Android device too, but I was able to get everything installed and sorted very easily in one go.

If you couldn't even get into OpenRecovery, then you would've have rooted since you can only do that once you're in OpenRecovery. But being rooted has got nothing to do with install a custom rom, on a Milestone at least.

it's "SBF" not SDF.

Since I have problems with my wifi when using v2.2 (Froyo), I downgraded it to v2.1 instead. Many people have had the same wifi problems as me and they all downgraded to v2.1 and found it works a lot better.

Also, there're no official v2.2 SBF for New Zealand. You can use other countries, but I prefer to find one that is actually for New Zealand. So v2.1 actually has one for New Zealand and that works out great for me.

Here's the link to download v2.1 SBF files:

And here's the link for v2.2 SBF:

sorry I don't use MAC, so don't have a clue. I don't even think there's a flasher alternative to RDL Lite for a MAC anyway, so you'll have to use Windows.
