oxnsox:
Jaxson:So $80 more, but I agree it looks the business given the higher resolution and screen size.

But only $40 more than where you started this thread.....

Don't get me wrong, I want one, just it's $80 - $90 more than you can get an 858 for now.

Actually it feels like we're getting shafted on the P500 on Vodafone:

I have a Vodafone 858, was given it on loan until my Vodafone contract expires in 6 weeks.

Before that phone I had not owned an Android phone. Up until the 858 I thought the best phone I ever had was the Sony Ericsson F100i. I think the 858 is great for the cost.

The 2 let downs are the fact in portrait its hard to write with qwerty screen, I have the most difficulty getting "A", and often get "S" instead. It is quite frustrating to speed text with, so I just have to maintain my cool and watch each word as its being typed (unlike a phone with physical clicky button number keypad where I can write a complete words texts without looking and still get 100% accuracy). This is considering I have, what has been described as thin girly hands.

The other thing is quite atrocious battery life. But that is probably not a fault of the phone (?), but how much data the poor thing has to deal with.

Where I live there is no 2 degrees towers, and Vodafone reception is very poor, but Telecom is strong reception. After getting the 858, and realising how great Android is, I started looking at other phones and decided I would prefer a Telecom LG P500 due to larger higher res screen. They have been going steadily down in price each passing week.

I planned to buy one before the end of the month, However I am now seeing a few sites that were selling them, no longer stock them. For example I was keen on the Red P500 from Dick Smith but they are no longer on the website (neither are the black ones). They are also no longer on Telecom's webstore.

How have they got the LG P500 running on Telecom?

Under say gsmarena.com it shows the 3G as being 900 / 2100 only.

I'm assuming it's some variant that is Telecom compatible only, or is it Telecom as well as those frequencies?

I'm Vodafone only at moment account wise so is purchasing this even an option?
LG P500 at the Warehouse

Cheers.

(I've also listed a WTB in the sale section here but who knows what will happen to the price over the holiday period, with the Warehouse's limited time deals etc etc.)

They are $139 with a sim and $50 credit at Bond and Bond. Thats cheaper than The Warehouse's 2 hour promotion assuming The Warehouse promotion comes with $0 credit!

Now have 1x P500 phone and don't regret it.

Android does suffer from having some sets on the market below what should be recommended hardware minimums. Having had a play with most of the cheap options, they all suffered from a combination of low/odd ball resolutions and/or low memory and/or low CPU speeds and/or too small screens (below 3"etc) etc.

Many thanks for all you comments and suggestions!

Anything device cheaper/smaller/slower than a Huawei X5 and you're wasting your time/sanity.

Speaking from position of having Vodafone 845, Huawei Ideos (U8150) and Huawei ideos X5 here for mucking around with.
