So, as the topic says, I think Igloo is pathetic, and I'm posting here so wouldbe buyers can be aware of the failures(in my opinion).
Why you ask is it bad?
Read on.
There is no tvnz on demand streaming.
You must pay for any streams(around $2 for a tv episode, $7 for a movie).
There is not the lineup tvnz has either, like the many New Zealand series.
Your guess is as good as mine as to why this feature has been left out which would be very usefull to their target userbase.
There is no media player function.
I'm aware it's currently in the quick setup guide on their website, and on the original packing too I believe, but there is no such feature.
I have been told in the original firmware there was a menu option for it, but it didn't work.
There's not one in the latest firmware and there is no information as to if this feature is going to be developed.
No additional HD content over freeview.
The extra channels avilable to purchace are not in HD. The only HD content is what's already available via freeview.
No longer unmetered access.
Igloo has recently changed CDN, the new one not having unmetered deals with isps so users data will now be counted.
No recording.
Igloo has two usb slots, either of which can be fitted with a stick of hdd which can provide live pause/rewind.
You cannot however record(like with the remotes record button) anthing you are watching.
Clearly the device could be made to(as it's recording for the live pause feature already) but is disabled.
Parting thoughts.
These devices seem to have been cut down to only provide profit generating services and not providing any of the conveniences users have come to expect. My mum would love to be able to watch Shortland Street on demand on her TV instead of the computer. These devices could have been great. Big fail Igloo.
