Just heard this morning that SKY are not going to show F1 next year,

presumably no other channel can afford it either.   This is my 37th year of watching F1 on NZ tv, so this is very sad news!

Does anybody know what streaming options are out there?  if any?

Cheers,

Well lets just hope that TVNZ/Spark pick it up.

A bit of rubbish in the article:

"but a drop in viewership here due in part to later start times in Europe"

Huh, the start times have always been in the middle of the night in NZ for those races ...

You know, because were in a different time zone ??!!

Cheers,

I thought F1 streamed via their own service if you wanted it?

Really goes back to the problem that the anti Sky brigade don't want to pay what is the going rate for sport. What many deem an "acceptable price" for viewing is very different to the real world, and with a small country like NZ the costs of big sport and such as rugby have to be recouped from general revenue as it could never stand by itself.

Well thats pretty much the reason for this post, what streaming options are out there?

I have found youtube.tv, sky sports f1, foxtel au so far.... but all need a vpn, and even then sometimes it will still be geoblocked.

F1TV hasnt been available in NZ due to skys rights holding, this may open up next year unless someone else buys the rights.

You'll be aware that this season moved from midnight start times to 1am start times, that extra hour must have killed off a lot of live viewers (the group that i always watched it with no longer watch it live).

The "real world" is what people are willing to pay. What people are willing to pay depends on expendable income, which your average New Zealander doesn't have much of. Rights need to be priced within reach of the potential audience to begin with, particularly when geographic licensing is used.

I would argue that the big sporting franchises are actually the ones not living in the real world with their huge salaries and expectations that even the smallest countries front up with millions of dollars just to view their content. Surely, it's better to receive some cash from a poorer market than nothing at all?

lol, well 1200-0200 or 0100-0300 is still the middle of the night as far as I'm concerned!  Never watched it live, always recorded it and watched the next day... I had a automatic script that would pull it from my series 1 tivo, compress into h264 and copy on to a memory stick, so I could watch it during my lunch break.

So does that mean that the svod rights will now allow for nz users to buy from another service (if such exists) or will sky still have the rights but not exercise them. Or they won’t broadcast and you can’t source it from other means?

F1TV offering available in NZ has race replays posted 14 days after the race!

So currently no way to watch it onDemand.

I do hope that F1TV PRO will come available in NZ for the 2019 season, with no other rights holder in NZ.

Sky to be cancelled as well!

Yes, Sky is not the ogre rorting us, its the content owners rorting us, Sky is just the conduit, and that target of the whiners. Being a small country doesn't help. Pity we can't piggy back off Australia

You would think so. Liberty Media is a marketing company, they want to grow F1 as much as they can, they often talk about this type of innovation with digital media, so I expect a full app with everything, OD to replace my recording option and an ATV4 app. Plus off course the sub
