Well struck a new one today. I'm having my roof replaced so the Sky dish has been temp removed.

I assumed I could still watch recorded content on MySky however I get the following error box onscreen just after 3 secs of playback.

"No satellite signal is being received SKY PDR requires a signal to be able to play back programmes"

Is this a DRM thing? Absurd!

It's to stop someone stealing the decoder and playing back the recordings I think - or taking it to a mates without a dish to watch some HD recordings.

I tought they made some sort of change a while back when they lost the satellite for ages, and nobody could watch recordings.

The MySKY is programmed to allow playback from the HDD for 24 hours after the signal is disconnected. A catch is that, if you reboot, the box won't allow you back into the planner if the signal is absent. I can't find the error message you quote in the documentation.

Edit: the change SKY made in 2006 was to increase the 2 hour limit to 24 hours. (Someone was stuck in a snowstorm with a dish full of snow so no reception). The problem was that people first rebooted the box which made the change moot.
