It's happened again!!!

A few weeks back I started a thread because my E71 had stopped picking up email. Because it was a special handset with "field test" software on it, I didn't want to do a factory reset. The solution was to swap my handset for another one (normal one bought through Vodafone), and hey-presto emails were flooding in again - happy days!!

Now my new handset is doing the same thing - not so happy days!!

When I try and sync MFE, I get: "System Error - Try again later!" I would be quite happy to do a reset, but for some reason the lock code is incorrect.

Is there any way to recover the lock code from an E71 handset?

The default should be 12345, but my handset was used by someone else in the company (who didn't change the lock code) and this doesn't work. I don't want to try it any more times either otherwise the handset will lock-up.

If I take it to a dealer can they recover or reset the lock code?

I really like my E71, but am getting quite frustrated here.

Notes:

- Firmware is up to date

- I have deleted and re-loaded MFE

Only Nokia can check / Chnage the security code

Or you could use Nokia NIS (download off the web to check out phone settings)

Good question. I was sure it was just there - maybe only for some models. Try this:

That found it, and just as I expected it is the default code (12345).

Unfortunately, whenever I try this code it comes up with "Code Error".

Am I doing something basically wrong here? I am entering the code as digits; 12345 then ok, same thing every time.

I'm starting to think there is something seriously screwy with this handset now!!

Try this but ONLY if you REALLY want to fully RESET your phone:
Turn on the phone while pressing "3" + "*" and the GREEN button & keep holding them

Not sure what that is, never been asked for it.

Will this turn my phone into an attractive belt ornament?

I will try our dealer another time before this.

Sigh.... remember when phones were (literaly) the size of a breeze block and - get this - made phone calls, and that's all!!?!

No, it should be all safe to do. It is a master master reset, erasing all your data. settings and restoring to factory, like just out of the box.

Excellent!
Your next trick will be to use NSS to debrand it & update with generic firmware - but that's another thread :)
