The other night I went to flick over to my Tivo and it had a black screen. Pulled the power plug and left it for a bit then plugged it back in.

Got the Tivo Welcome screen so thought everything was good and went and did something else for a bit. Flicked back over and the screen was black again.

Repeated the process and watched it this time, shortly after getting the Tivo welcome screen the screen flashes with a bunch of colours and then goes black.

When using the remote I can see the LED on the front of the Tivo unit flashing in response but nothing happens.

Tivo was modded about 2 years ago and is running a Western Digital Red drive.

Any troubleshooting steps to take?

Cheers

Matt

The fact that the LED on the TiVo flashes in response to the remote suggests that the TiVo has booted ok, but there's a problem with HDMI handshaking maybe. Try connecting with a composite or component connection, and if good suspect your HDMI cable, or dry joints on the HDMI socket or TV even. A Tivo can display the first screens over HDMI to TV, but fail later on in these cases.

Tivo upgrades to operate with the new OzTivo EPG, support and service. Over 400 performed here so far. See: www.hillcrest.net.nz
