GoPro Hero 11 Black

Looks like the New 11 has a few subtle but significant tweaks from the previous model

From their site: $749 NZD

Product Details

  • Includes HERO11 Black camera, carrying case, Enduro Rechargeable Battery, curved adhesive mounts, mounting buckle + thumb screw, USB-C cable and free SD card
  • Automatically upload footage to the cloud + get a highlight video when charging
  • Larger new image sensor delivers an immersive, extra-large field of view.
  • Cinematic 5.3K60 + 2.7K240 video with 24.7 megapixel stills from video.
  • Stunning 27 megapixel high-res photos.
  • Emmy® Award-winning HyperSmooth 5.0 video stabilization with Horizon Lock.
  • Waterproof to 33ft + built tough.

More interesting for me is the "coming soon" Mini

All of the above in a smaller package with no screen. Perfect for the likes of me who generally have the thing clipped to a helmet or chest mount and review the footage on mobile anyway.

GoPro Hero 11 Black Mini

Yes, I'm interested in what the 11 mini will bring to the table as this looks ideal for running and biking with.

Review from DC Rainmaker on the standard 11 Black.

To me the Mini looks like its not quite mini enough. If it was the size of the old Hero 5 session I would be all over it but the pictures I've seen it looks like it fits in some middle ground.

I picked up the Hero 10 Black last year, no need to upgrade to the Hero 11 for me. I'm more interested in trying a 360* camera to use alongside the GoPro and the recently announced Insta360 X3 looks pretty good.

I watched that review this morning and am eagerly awaiting the Mini review on the same channel. He's a good reviewer and will happily point out the flaws, which is refreshing.

I have a GoPro Hero11 Black here and it's a nice step up from the Hero10 - which was itself a great update. The new 7:8 ratio is pretty cool as it allows changing captured movies to any other format really. Also the battery update.

Do you have a Mini for review as well?

I am assuming that you were embargoed until today?

No, only the Hero11 Black. And yes, but only got the camera last Monday. We had a session with the product owner two weeks ago but the cameras were slow to get here. I have a video that could possibly upload to YouTube and embed here if you want.

That would be great, thanks MF

I did have a version with audio but deleted it and then went to download again but it was replaced with a B Roll...

DC does do good reviews. I must admit, we still use our Sessions as much as the normal cameras, they're great for picture in picture stuff or shoving them in awkward spots. I must admit I was surprised when they stopped making them. I've held off for awhile on getting anything too new, to easy to wind up with SD cards or drives full of footage that never gets used. I think at last count we have a Session (4), Session 5. Black 5 and Black 7. I've been tempted the last year or two to get a 360 version of some kind but GoPro haven't done much with the Max.

Yeah, I have a Hero 8 Black, which does a good job and my son has my old Hero 7 Silver, which does an adequate job (he rarely uses it anyway).

The only let down from what I have seen on the 11 Mini is that there is not photo function. You have to pull frames from the video file to create stills.

I would've thought that a single press on the power button could have provided a simple two-mode option - video or stills and that the small LCD would be enough to tell you which mode you're in. Even if it always defaults to video on power-up.

Maybe a software update will allow it, but yeah, that's a bit of a fail for me and I'll likely end up passing on the Mini as a result, because I do use the 8 Black to take photos.
