No idea, but hopefully an online streaming outfit; The more sports that go that route, the closer we get to the death of Sky ;-)

(For some reason I arrived at http://www.pgatour.com/live.html the other day. Are all PGA events now streamed live on there?)

I read that the PGA was planning to offer direct streaming service instead of the usual via a broadcaster, sadly no more details than that.

a bit more info here

Coliseum take PGA Tour coverage online in NZ - http://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/golf/10567548/Coliseum-take-PGA-Tour-coverage-online-in-NZ

As with Coliseum's Premier League operation, PGA Tour coverage will now be an internet-based service in New Zealand.

However, unlike the Premier League, Coliseum will not be involved in the actual delivery of the content.

Instead, Coliseum will simply act as a rights holder.

So now I have to decide whether I can ditch sky because with golf gone I have lost a large majority of my weekly watching on sky. However, with 3 of the majors, WGC events and the Ryder cup (haven't seen anything about the presidents cup?) still on sky it is probably still enough to make me not ditch it. I am certainly not going to go for both so that leaves me in no mans land probably keeping sky.

I don't really understand what Coliseum's role is if its going to be provided directly by the PGA. I thought the point was that they can make more money by providing it direct and Sky said they didn't believe they had been outbid so what will Coliseum actually be dong if not delivering the content? Just taking a cut of the subscription fee while the PGA provide it themselves?

My guess is providing the subscription infrastructure. The PGA has enough to do running the game and at a strategic level getting what they can for the rights to broadcast their golf. I wouldn't have thought the PGA wants to be keeping lists of paying subscribers, chasing up bad debts, fixing technical issues for end users etc. This is what I expect Coliseum to do, using an online delivery method, rather than broadcasting it.

With the PLP and now this it is going to be interesting when the cost to watch what you did previously is more and the quality in some cases is less.

It is also interesting that a lot of the people who watch PGA golf are older retired folks whose extra cost is going to be way more than just the subscription price

Who? Remember they have to broadcast the pictures not just show them and has to be to his best quality.

And if it was a online service don't expect any change out of 350 a year

Thats what I was thinking. Half of them don't even have a computer let alone the appetite to sit in front of their computer watching golf for hours on end or knowing how to hook it up to their tv. I'll usually just leave it on in the background on a Sat/Sun morning, but with Sky still having most of the majors etc I think I'll just keep sky and watch the events when they are on. Just too much stuffing around to get a stream going on TV. Not to mention it probably buffering all the time.
