I've noticed that most streaming services emphasise their collection of movies or popular TV shows, which I mostly don't care about. I'd ideally have something like the ability to stream most of the shows on the Food Channel + National Geographic. Is there any way to get something close to this without having to have SKY?

Have a look at this list. There are some options there - CuriosityStream would be my top pick.

Ditto that. Seriously thinking about ditching NF subscription as we almost exclusively use BBC iPlayer and All4.
