Well with the cricket moving to TVNZ Duke and TVNZ+ I thought I'd try out the streaming service.

It seems to go along for a bit and then every time it comes up with an out of memory error in chrome.  Checking the mem usage, it does track up slowly while watching, so it seems to have a memory leak.

Tried it out on two PC's and they both do it.  They both have 8GB of ram which should be plenty for streaming, all other streaming services work.

Any body else getting this?   Its pointless ringing tvnz because they wouldnt have a clue what I am talking about.

Cheers,

Try Firefox with uBlock Origin installed.

Often excess memory use is from ads, trackers, scripts, etc. which aren't required to view the content of the page.

Agree 8 GB should be plenty for this purpose.

Thanks,

yes another browser is an option, but it would be nice to get it working on Chrome.

I'm already using ublock origin for Chrome, so its not that.

I am unsure of the exact time frame of the change, but at some point Chrome will enforce Manifest v3 which severely limits the capability of content filters.

In any case trying a different browser is probably an easy first step before trying to work out exactly what TVNZ has done differently to cause a memory leak.

I mention it because we frequently use TVNZ+ on Firefox, often have the same instance running for weeks or months without having to close the browser.

ok, cool, I will try that out. Might even try edge too, but being chromium based, its probably the same.

I'll have to take your word on manifest v3 - I am a programmer, but not in web, so have no idea what that is!

I have been having the same problem,

When watching the cricket it takes approximately 1 hour for RAM usage to hit 3-4gb , If i do not close and re-open the tab it will crash the browser,

I have tried watching on Chrome, Edge, Firefox & Opera all with the same results. I have tried disabling ad block, enabling others, All browsers are updated to latest public release.

I have submitted a Help ticket with no response.

I just want to watch the cricket without having to reload the page every 30-45 min.

If anyone is able to provide a solution i would be greatly appreciative

Regards,

Apsattv

An alternative option, if you live in an area with Freeview terestrial signal. Just  get a usb Tuner stick

well I didnt manage to find anything, turn ad block on and off, and it worked either way (was on main HTPC, 8gb ram).

My laptop also has 8gb of ram, and I also had the issue on that, so I will try that out on Sundays game, being a day game etc.

If you are just watching via the browser take the raw m3u8 TVNZ1 url  and play it in vlc or any other player

No need to use any chrome browser

Hi that sounds like a great idea, Ignorant question but how does one get the raw m3u8 url from a live stream?

Thanks in advance

Use network inspector in your browser and filter for .m3u8

or go here https://i.mjh.nz/nz/

for a raw playlist that can be saved and loaded on VLC, VLC will also let you cast it to your tv as the playback devices if you have TV with chromecast feature.
