The usual pricing for ASICS gel kayano 29's is $289 at Rebel sports. Currently at rebel sport for $246 as part of MVP sale however with black friday sales coming up I'm not sure which sale period is better.

I'm thinking of purchasing at the current price $246 and if the black friday sales end of November are $15-20 better then returning them and buying them from another store. It's a 30 day return period as long as in same condition as you bought them. I can leave them in the box or just wear them inside the house in the interim.

Anyone had any experience with these types of returns? I think I can come up with a reasonable excuse to return them if I have to but I really just want it at the best price possible. I'll get annoyed if there's a better price 2 weeks later. I suspect clearance sales are probably the best and judging by this years prices that's around $179. There is also the possibility boxing day may have better pricing.

Anyone have any idea which is the better sale period? in particular for running shoes.

edit: I was in store Wednesday, price was $289, MVP sale price was Saturday. No idea when that changed but as of Sunday it's back to $289. I wonder if I can bargain for Saturdays price? I do have a photo from the website as proof of $246 pricing

Depends on size and if you really need (want) the 29;

To be honest a 15% discount at Rebel Sport isn't that great so I would wait.

I normally buy New Balance running shoes and I find that the New Balance outlet stores often undercut Rebel Sport by 25% or more, particularly if you are happy to buy last season's outgoing model.

Check out dress smart.

You can often get them for $179 (normally previous model but that doesn't bother me as I go through 2 pair a year).

I have to say the 28's vs 29 are chalk and cheese. The padding in the 29's is exceptional. Seems like most of the current series of Asics have it now. I am not a runner, and buy Kayanos for comfort when walking around as I have dead flat feet and they get very sore if I stand too long.

I paid $209 a month or or so back I think, once I took into account a $10 voucher I was sent for online purchases, they kindly agreed to offer in store.

The only shoes I have ever found that compare to the Kayanos for comfort and support were the Brooks adreneline, but Asics are available world wide, and I know, if I buy a Asics 10.5 shoe, it fits me every time perfectly. Can't say that about any other brand or type of clothing I buy.

I have the Kayano's from 21 through to 28 and I have to say I don't notice a huge difference between each one.  That might well be by the time I get a new one I have done 1000km+ on it and they are run out so the new ones always feel great.

Still have another 400km left on my 28s so it will be interesting to see what the 29s feel like in a few months

I owned 23 and 24 couldn't tell the difference and tried the 28s and wasn't impressed. The 29s were a wow moment for me. I can't comment on them other than walking and only care they are super comfortable and supportive 'enough' and if you are putting those kinda range on them you'd want to read reviews from people with similar levels of experience with the old ones to know if the 29s are your cup of tea.

US sites offer 'wide' option for the 29s in most sizes. Are wide sold by default here or not available?

Generally, only some certain chains carry wide or extra wide and only in some colours. We just don't have the population for stores to carry 3 widths in 10 sizes per model.

I checked athletes foot but they didn't have my size. I am happy with older models. I've been using the kayanos for years and just in love with them. Admittedly I don't even look at other brands now because I know I'm going to be comfortable in them. I could be missing out but to be honest I can't be bothered checking out every brand of shoe every time I need a new shoe.

Thanks. I just realised there are Asics outlets in Onehunga and Westgate so will check them out. $179 is fine. I'm not fussed about latest model.

Don't forget they sell grey-market (made in Vietnam) ASICs on Dicksmith's website via Kogan's supply chain.

Purchased some they're legit, but typically last release. In some cases, like ours, this was great because we really liked the previous gens colour and hated the new colour.

No 2E or 4E though that I've ever seen.
