http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/crime/75263207/motorcyclist-spotted-going-261kmh-in-Canterbury

Well the patrol car was only doing 32km/h, he probably wanted to spend as much time in the right hand lane as possible.

Or perhaps he thought the Police had raised the tolerance this week

As the story is from Stuff, we can only guarantee the following facts.

1) There is an area named Canterbury.
2) People ride Motorcycles.
3) There are Police.

Funny thing is this speed is reached by motorcyclists quite often. But they don't die or kill others. That tends to happen a lower speeds.

Might be the law averages I suppose, but it might also be something else.

If police chased him at such speed there would definitely be crash.
Hope they got his plate number and will deal with him/her later (though has not been caught - cannot be sentenced, only fee).

I'm not sure a police car would reach 260 very easily.
Bikes are stupendously quick now. They are one of the few things in life that have got faster and lighter with no concession to safety. Perhaps except for ABS which only adds about 10kg.

Johnr doesn't do 260ks. He does 260 miles. So it can't be him.

Apologies if I'm misinterpreting this, but are you implying somehow that it's OK to ride at >260km/h on occasion?

I'm suggesting that it is no more dangerous than say doing say100km/h on the Auckland southern motorway while texting.

Don't get me wrong, get caught, get done for dangerous driving..because it is.
