Hi All,

I'm having a problem with a refrigerated truck that has recently started parking across the road from my house, leaving its refrigeration motor running for long periods. My understanding is that there's not much can be done; even though this is a residential area there's no parking restrictions etc.

When I called the police to try and see if there's any way we can contact the owner of the truck, the only suggestion they had was to look on CarJam. Looked it up and as expected there is no information on who might own the truck, but what shocked me is that the photo on CarJam is of this exact truck, parked outside my house last week! Can anyone provide info on how Carjam gets these photos?

You can't get ownership details on ownership from the transport registry either directly or via sites like Car Jam

It was removed in 2011 due to privacy issues, although scammy businesses can still get it if they pay $$ to NZTA..

As someone else said, if you want to contact them stick something under their wiper..., or rush out if you hear the truck start :)

The owners name should be written on the cab somewhere.

Look carefully as it could be an Owner Driver contracting to a company, but it should be visible somewhere.

Failing that, call the company on the door, the rego or truck number should allow them to track down the vehicle in question.

Some years ago I was selling a company vehicle that was sign written on Trade Me, I was going to have the sign writing removed before sale.

This appeared on CarJam very quickly, I did not upload it.

I dont know if TradeMe uploaded the photo or carjam scapped the photo but have a look on trademe and see if the truck is there.

Does it have the keys in it still?

There was a motel that I used to stay at, three days in a row on a cold morning the owner of a diesel ute went out at six am, started the truck to warm it up and then go back and have his shower and breakfast. This was right outside the room I was in. On the fourth morning I got up, turned it off, locked it and dropped the key in the motel after hours box.

Unfortunately councils have no jurisdiction to deal with noise on roads - noise control only applies to private properties. And because the truck is parked legally there's no way the council can help.

The noise is the problem - but not at night. It's a constant low droning sound that goes for hours during the day. Sounds like something I'm just going to have to put up with. The trucking company has checked with the council so are aware they are allowed to keep parking there.

but why would a parked truck make so much noise? is it some ice cream truck or other vending business?

That's an awful situation to be in. This latest post suggests you have been in touch with the trucking company, or was it the council that informed you of this? Maybe speak to your neighbours and check if they share your concerns at all, and then approach the trucking company (again) as a group. Safety and power in numbers and all that.
