Has anyone seen KiwiPlates do any discounts/specials or any other way of getting cheaper personalised plates?

Back with the old Personalised Plates company donkeys ago they sold bulk vouchers which were cheaper then people onsold them individually on Trade Me.

Or anyone got a voucher they want to liquidate for less than market value? 😁

I'm not in any hurry and would rather not fork out the full $1k if I can avoid it.

I only came here to see what PeterReader's reply was but it seems it was deleted. Can we make a new rule that moderators cannot delete PeterReader replies to their messages? ;-)

Don't get me started on Kiwiplates pricing. How can it be $40-something to replace a lost plate but $999 to make a personalised plate ?

After six months of angst over whether I should get my car's original plate back I caved in yesterday and bought it. It will look great on the car, but it's lot of money for something so simple so I understand where you're coming from.

The fact it costs that much but the number of people who continue to buy them shows you its a great business and not overpriced. Whats an extra $1k on your brand new $50k+ car?

For the rest of us. $1000 for a personalised plate? Mate you're dreaming.

Because replacing a plate just involves sending an order to Licensys to press it. Actually issuing one involves updating the registration database with the new plate for the car, sending the order to Licensys for production, a contribution to the road safety fund, a margin for the operator of the service, a moderator to ensure it's not a "clever combo" that would be objectionable, customer support, handling of the returned government issue plates, payment processing (Visa/Mastercard/Amex) commissions, etc.

I'd hazard a guess & reckon it'd be 12 months.

Regardless, it's steep pricing for a stamped bit of tin though 🤷‍♂️

It's a vanity product so I don't mind paying whoever has the rights to make them a large profit, I just don't want to fork out a grand then get a 10% special in my inbox next month :-)

Nope, the rego period carries across from your previous/current plate.

Last year (2020) there was a Free Plate Competition...

Sure, but its $599 for a fixed format plate, versus $999 for a flex format. The process for both is fundamentally the same - perhaps marginally more moderation for flexi, but not $400 worth.

Yeah - but it's unique enough then just imagine what the NFT you create from it could be worth. To the moon, but you'd still be able to own and use the plate on the Veyron you bought from the profits.
