My Facebook is currently being overrun with supposed news items about an outfit called FunkyClock being a partner of Apple and offering a Iphone 6S for $1.00. On reading the terms and conditions It appears to be in actual fact a subscription based offer. Where your dollar buys you a trial membership for 3 days and you are then charged $139.00 a month. The I Phone is allocated on the basis of draw so there isn't much chance of getting 1 either.
Seems like if it is to good to be true it is.

Thank you for this tip. It has come up on my facebook feed a number of times, and it was obviously (to me) too good to be true. It's a shame that facebook does not let you easily report an advertisement as dodgy.

I've seen this scam too. Companies like Facebook and Google really need to work on there advertising standards.

Bit rude calling it a scam when all the details are laid out for people to see, greedy people will only see the iphone and then lose out. Doesnt make it a scam.

What is a scam are people like the aliexpress sellers that offer partial refunds because they "couldnt sent it with fedex because of the battery" therefore using up peoples dispute for when nothing arrives etc.

I used to be all against adblockers, as I like to support website by clicking on the adverts. However with all the scam ads, and potentially viruses/malware being able to be transmitted through them, and lack of checking by publishers/companies providing the advertising, it is pretty much needed these days IMO.

The other thing is that they masquerade as genuine news stories. The two I saw represent to be a guardian and a stuff news story I have no issue with subscription based services as such but to promote yourself by making claims that do not reflect the nature of the offer is dodgy.
From what I see on Google they are doing this in other countries as well.

I have been seeing these too, and they often seem to come from a page titled 'Apple New Zealand'. I suspect they're violating Facebook's T&Cs by violating someone else's trade mark, so they may not be around for long.
