Has anyone recently renewed their passport? I need to get my daughters done before we come back in December and was looking to see how long it would take. Previously we got my youngest daughters in around a week (delivered to Dubai) but there were Covid related delays more recently.

How long is it currently taking?

"Standard passports are usually processed in approximately 1 month. We encourage you to consider this timing when planning a trip. Allow extra time for delivery."

Their 1 month is in working days even though they dont say this anywhere, so allow for 6 weeks + delivery

Renewed mine lately (last renewed back in 2006).

Applied on July 27th, Arrived August 19th.

So for me about 3 weeks, but better to do it sooner than later especially if it's being sent overseas

Have just renewed two sons' passports. One arrived in seven days, the other ten days after submitting application!

You can always pay double and it will be created within 3 working days. The biggest issue will probably be where it needs to be delivered to. I needed mine renewed quickly and live in Wellington. It took less than 20 hours between ordering it and picking it up, and that included needing to get the photo redone. I doubt they are quite as timely now as this was back in April and people are travelling more now so the demand is probably higher.

Thanks all. It sounds like it’s getting better, I’ll probably order it at the start of October.

Interesting factoid, the NZ Passports Office isn't bound by legislation to create a priority passport within a specified period, just "the application to be processed within a time frame that would result in the application being given priority over other applications of the same type". Whereas in Australia, the Passports Office is bound by legislation to produce a priority passport within two working days.

Though unlike in Australia, in NZ you can pay a $700 fee to have the Passport Office work after hours to produce your passport.
