Hi guys, hoping you can help me troubleshoot an issue i've been having with picture dropouts as well as random Hz changes between two devices.

TV Panasonic TH-P50U50Z

Panasonic PWT550GZ

Marantz 5010 AV receiver

My system is one HDMI cable from tv into monitor out of AV Receiver, AVR to Freeview box via HDMI. Picture has been dropping out as well as random HZ changes and half fuzzy or static looking pictures on freeview and blu ray disc playback.

So far I've tried two brand new hdmi cables between freeview recorder - AVR, and I've also tried a different AVR which was a Denon X1000 both with the same result. After trying the different HDMI cables I took the freeview recorder back to Noel Leeming under warranty to get it checked out. They sent it away to a service agent who advises there is nothing wrong with it. NL are now charging me $60 + courier costs for the service fee.

Having tried two different brand new HDMI cables, two different AVR's and different HDMI inputs on the AVR's. I've also replaced the HDMI cable between the TV and AVR. What else can I do? Please note that all my other connections to the AVR over HDMI work perfectly Apple TV, Xbox etc.

What TV?

Is it HDCP 2.2 compatible?

Do you have Deep Colour turned on in the Panasonic Blu-ray recorder?

Number one rule with fault finding is Isolation.

First thing I would do is try and test the input of the TV, where for a start I'd connect the DVD player direct to the TV.

If this fails, change input,
If that fails, change cable,
If the TV fails on all inputs and combinations then,
Test devices on another TV or display if you can, this isolates the two components.
If the devices work on a 2nd display then the issue could be within the primary display.

If the DVD player works, then test the other individual components with the same procedure.

If all the devices work individually on the display, then add each device to the display, test each time one is added.
If at this point the display and devices cooperate then you can add to the AV unit.

First check that devices are set correctly, if you have options choose AUTO first, If you have HDCP options, select auto.
AUTO forces devices to send EDID data, manual settings in some cases limits interactions, but not always.

The order of operation can effect EDID transactions and syncing, typically the display should be the last device to be turned on, but sometimes the first, depends on all the devices that are being used.

Mixed settings can cause the display to be confused about what to do. AV units are not really that good when it comes to mixed setups. Sometimes a video scalar needs to be used to isolate multiple devices.

Force AV unit to pass through without scaling if you can.

As before start with the DVD player alone through the AV to the display.
If it works, then add another device. Test again

My guess is mixed messages from the devices to the display. Can be simply confused with 1080i verse 1080p. in this case it might require the AV to scale the inputs to a normalized output.
