Hi Geekzoners,

Just purchased and installed a new TV today, picked up a LG 65" B9 at home.

Looks and goes really nicely apart from the TVNZ app, which works fine while watching something but when you pause and the ad comes up on screen there is a high pitched noise through the TV.

Volume changes and mute do nothing, the sound is there, then once you play again it disappears and normality resumes.

Seems like its only the TVNZ app streaming via a hard wired connection.

Any ideas what it could be and how to stop it? Its a horrible sound.

I have been considering an LG TV myself.

Are you running the TV with standard config and with stand alone audio apart from the streaming connection?

There seems to be some HDMI ARC and cable issues reported with LG TVs.

We had a similar problem and LG told us it was just the souls of the undead trying to communicate with us, and to please ignore it as best as possible.

It was quite annoying at first but after I murdered my family it seemed to be a much more pleasant noise.

No stereo equipment connected, only a DVD player and an Xbox.

Ill try unplugging them and see if that helps but it is weird that it is only one streaming service that does it.

Have tried this, didnt help much, although that is one other source of whining eliminated.

I have heard of noisy coils on the power supplies of the LG 9 series , but I would have thought that would not just effect a streaming service but all inputs.

I think i have figured this out, last night i was playing around and found that when there is a majority of a bright colour on the screen we get the buzz. Like a full screen yellow ad for example......

Ill be calling HN today methinks.

That makes sense that it could be coils on the power supply then . Reminds me of a plasma I had , it used to buzz on bright screens .

Our samsung has an image dependent buzz. Apparently this is common to our model and is most likely a faulty capacitor. But, can you find anyone who actually repairs board-level components these days? A $1.00 capacitor means we may have to bin our $1500 TV! Although , it needs to be located, removed, replaced so it is more a case of time cost than component cost.

I had a CRT a few years back that had a noisy coil in the power supply , the tech came out and put clear nail polish on it to stop the ringing .

Sounds like the power unit. It used to be normal in plasma TVs. We'll at least it was in mine as I got it replaced under warranty and the new one was louder.

I suggest get it warrantied. Or return it if possible.

The problem is when these are out of warranty -- you are covered in theory by the CGA but that is always a fight and sometimes don't have the energy . TV should last at least 10 years without this buzzing issue though.

From the quick google i did after figuring out what it was its not a common problem but one that has occurred for other people, sounds like a power supply (likely for one of the LED Boards).

Hopefully its as i have seen from overseas and a tech can come to our place and sort it, dont really want to have to send it somewhere.
