Thought I should start a thread regarding the TV guide with 7MC as no body has done so yet and there doesn't seem to be any real clarity about it.
Sadly it still looks like we have some of the same bugs that were in the TV Pack, ie Partial recordings with DVB-S. The DVB-T guide has been fixed by the latest fix and hopefully Freeview will sort the Guide out so we have a 7 day epg (I guess we can map the DVB-S guide to it for now).
Who else is having the "Partial recording" issue?Is it only with DVB-S freeview?
Are there any other Guide issues people are having?
Are there any fixes for this issue?

I cant even get a guide, so far this is what I have done

I have just installed Win 7 beta and set up the PVR150 as the only tuner so far using svideo for the sky box, im getting a picture fine but when I put in my post code it told me there was no EPG for that area and so I have no guide listings, what have others done to get a guide for the sky box working ?? any help would be great.

I also have a HVR200 which I havent set up yet, id rather get sky working with a guide before i mess with that.

The only guide you can curently get is from the DVB-S feed, you need a DVB-S tuner and sat diash and then you scan the channels and map the guide listings accross to the channels on the PVR-150

There is nothing for Freeview to fix. The lack of 8 day EPG is solely because Microsoft have no plans to fully impliment MHEG5 profiles within Media Center.

The solution for DVB-T EPG's is going to rely on importing data from external sources.

EIT is an obsolete method for transmitting EPG data.

MHEG5 has become the defacto method of transmitting EPG data for most new DVB networks that have been rolled out over the past couple of years. EIT is severly limited in what it can offer in terms of data content. Like all networks who have deployed MHEG5 it's done for a reason - to ensure that every device has a consistant UI and performs in a similair way. Buy any Freeview certified box here and it will offer the same EPG format, but any Freeview DVR box and it will use the same MHEG PVR-EPG interface.

Features such as series link simply aren't possible using EIT. The reasons for Freeview not deploying an obsolete standard with their DVB-T are pretty clear, it's really up to companies who write software and build boxes to start supporting standards that are in use by numerous networks around the world.

Microsoft don't provide data for "the rest of the world". Their data is only available in a handful of markets and there is absolutely nothing to stop Micosoft buying this data now and offering it. Remember however that this data is not owned by Freeview, it's owned by the channels themselves and Microsoft would need to negotiate access to this data with TVNZ, MediaWorks etc.

Hey Just to confirm, does this work with just Win7 or does it work with Vista TV Pack as well?
How many people on these forums are using BSE?

I would like to know if it works for Vista TV pack as well.. I am now very very close to giving up on TV pack and going back to the old setup. I will loose access to the Telstra channels but TV pack has just been too much pain. 90% of the pain is the epg not working correctly. If I can get the EPG reliable ie when I set something to record it (gasp) RECORDS!! then I will stick with TV pack until Windows 7 hits the shelves.

The TV Pack EPG database is locked. Read something that suggested that this was a bug, and was never intentional. however Microsoft isn't going to fix it. The BSE Tool or others are unlikely to ever support the TV Pack for this reason.

Just my opinion, but once you use Windows 7, you understand why the TV Pack never made general release. They're only just fixing some of the bugs which carried through into Windows 7 now. Reliability and the TV Pack just don't go together well.

All the information around suggests the TV Pack is a dead end option. Even though Windows 7 is only in beta, its a hunderd times more stable and useable than the TV Pack ever was.

Windows 7 and the BSE Tool go together very very well. This is a much much better place to start the conversation...

Switch across to Windows 7 Nety. Once RustyGonad convinced me to do so, I've never looked back. And I'm not even using BSE yet. Will get a chance to load that up this Saturday.

Well, well worth the move. I just hope that the RC overlaps with the RTM version so I never have to see VMC or the TV Pack again...

Tust me I really really want to but I use Totalmedia theatre for blu ray playback and currently their player does not run on Windows 7 at all! I am stuck waiting for the promised update that will work in Windows 7 then I will switch over in a flash.

PowerDVD works fine - launches from my Play DVD option within Media Center, runs full screen, and closes back to Media Center once I'm done with it. Does everything TMT did for me in Vista without me having to buy another program :)

Without having to buy another program?? If I could get PowerDVD for free I would switch to it (temporarily anyway)...
I dont think my drive came with any software (might check tonight though).

The new version of PowerDVD 9 is out to which fully integrates with Media Center...

And its only $220 NZ.

This would be an absolute bargain, except where I come from, where its seems like an absolute rip off...

Wonder how much of that goes to Sony... Bluray licensing fees anyone...

I'm all for paying for software, but someones really starting to take the p***.

Shame we not going to see an Microsoft based solution...

Having said that the new version of TMT looks good, and if they hold there current pricing ie $70 US, its atleast a little easier to live with...
