It's been rock solid for me for a day so far, even tempted fate by installing it last night and recording the all whites game with it :-)

Of course there will likely be issues for some but these RC's have been getting better every time for me (as you'd hope!).

I'm probably to biased, or maybe thats a good thing in a thread like that :-)

But truly, 7MC seems like a great product- I just like the extras in MP!

I guess they are for different flavours of the HTPC crowd..

I'd recommend Win 7 MC to new users, just bc of the time it takes to get mediaportal setup. W7 MC with all the latest updates just seems like a breeze to setup. (I'm talking live TV). However my HTPC still runs MP + XP SP3. I'm thinking of upgrading to 32bit W7 + MP 1.1 Final when it comes out.

Thats what I'm currently running. W7 32 bit (no need for 64 bit and could cause issues with software/drivers) and running MP 1.1.0 RC5 which is very stable for me (although others have had issues as apparently the new method of displaying video is a bit tougher on the poor video card). That only appears to affect people running 1080P (I'm on 720p) and with the bare minimum in graphics.

I'm really excited about how MP is leaping ahead. Sure, there are issues when they make new releases but its because they are putting in so much new functionality all the time. This stable release will be great and 1.2 looks like its got some great new stuff too. Guess I'll be forever looking for more bonuses, but only as long as it's doing the things I need on a daily basis (TV/recording and movie watching).

I also run HD4670.

What changes are you talking about in the new method?

Are you talking about the rendering changes between 1.0 Final and 1.0.2 or is there a new rendering method that was introduced in one of the 1.1 RC#s ?

We talk about it a bit in the RC4 thread, although no one has confirmed anything apart from some people suffering from stutter problems when running in 1080P that are not there in 1.0.2 final or when using 720P.

Dingbatt supplied this info:

Yes I thought I had solved it by removing MS 'Play Ready' (?) update (discussed here http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=84&topicid=60085  ) .  But the stuttering returned.  I have dropped the HTPC output resolution to 720p (from 1080p) which (so far) seems to have helped.
From what I can tell the change from 1.0.2 to the 1.1.0 RCs is the handling of the videostream from direct to a type of overlay which massively increases the processing load.

Oh, I got it wrong too. I believe some of the guys were using 4670's like us.

wow, up early for a sunday =)

and is this problem just limited to W7 (EVR) or does it effect XP (VMR9) too?

Yeah, not my normal choice to be up too early on a sunday but with the world cup on I find myself up at all manner of strange hours :-)

No idea about EVR and XP sorry, I was dual booting XP and win 7 for a while on my HTPC but in the end I changed purely to win 7 when my system HD started running out of space.
I'm not sure if there is a definite indicator for who will experience the issues, all I know is I haven't (but have only tried it at 720P and 1080i which is all my TV supports).

A question though. I recently just tried to rip a CD in mediaportal using the rip CD option under music, but kept getting an error when I tried.
Looking at the config I note is using LAME as an encoder, and there is a LAME dll in the mediaportal setup. Do I also need the LAME program itself, or is the dll capable of ripping without needing the standalone?
It's the first time I've tried it, so not sure if this is working in other versions or not.
