Hi there,

I'm considering trying to get a mediaportal client running on my 2004 vintage desktop for Freeview HD, it's an AMD 2GHz single core, 2G ram, WinXP, 22" 1600x1050 res monitor. An AGP 4650/4670 would set me back $150 or so.

Is it worth giving this AGP graphics upgrade a go? The alternative would be a new motherboard and associated other components. Any experience with these cards out there?

I have one of these cards, as do a couple of colleagues - got them about a year ago. Feedback is favourable enough, works well enough for playing movies etc without imposing too much strain on the ageing CPU.

Haven't played any Blu-Ray movies or similar thru it, so can't comment on that aspect.

Wont be entirely the best for playing latest resource hungry games, as the mobo will be the weakest point in data throughput, not the AGP card.

Like you, just postponing the inevitable though. Next upgrade will be new everything ..

My PC has slightly higher spec - 2.8ghz, and 3g DDR RAM, and running Win7 Ultimate. The experience index rates the card quite high (6 or 7. something - I think), but the CPU and RAM is the bottleneck.
