Hi all,

Just wondering if people have any exprience with the Sharp Aquos 52" LCD? (LC52D84X)

Only reason this got brought to my attention was it was always mentioned in threads discussion Gaming Lag for LCD screens.

Also notices it Made in Japan (very rare these days) and also has 3 years manufacturer warranty? Anyone know of any issues with this model. Is it an old model because I think i saw a review of it from 2008?

I know people will say "get a plasma" if you mention gaming, however I just wanted to know, which LCDs out there atm offer minimal lag? (46" and above)

Sharp make a 40" LED lit LCD that's being advertised right now...
They talk about having an extra colour sub-pixel (red, green, blue and YELLOW). Very bold yellows, not for everyone. But the styling of the tellie is pretty funky.
Almost iPhone-esqe.
Don't know about lag time though... just interesting TV's.

Hi,

A couple of years ago I bought a Sharp LC46G7X which is a 46" full LCD. This was an old model at the time and suffers from some light bleed around the top which is a symptom of the generation of TV's at the time. It was $2500 down from $6K odd on a boxing day sale.

I can't comment on the lag for the model you are looking at but from a general build point of view I have been happy with the Sharps performance.

Thanks guys, yeah I've seen the Quattron LED but not interested in it atm.

I was just thinking of an LCD fallback if I didnt go Plasma. Thus the importance of lag performance.

Just trying to work out if the tech is this model is quite old or is it updated like the Samsung A-B-C revisions.

I found the information out there about sharp very hard to find when I was belatedly researching the impulse LCD purchase I had made! They don't seem to have a large web presence despite (from what I gather) being a big OEM manufacturer.

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

Yeah i wouldnt be suprised if it is a discontinued model.

Only one or two shops have it and its also limited stock. Also heavily discounted which usually means they are trying to get rid of older models.

Sharp are a very good brand of LCD tv's, I heard somewere they are maket leaders in Japan and with the 3 year warranties it shows the stand behind their product.
The model you are talking about is a pretty average Tv compared to others on the market and you would have to be able to get it at a pretty cheap price to make it worth while say under $2500.

For gaming it would be fine for everything else no so unless everything you watch is in HD.
It has a matte screen which gets a white haze over the screen when trying to view in high light situations as apposed to reflections in a gloss screen.

Yes it is an old model.
Minimal lag options? Prob the serise 6 Samsungs or maybe a LG 52LD560

When you look ats whats around in the larger LCD/LED tvs say 52" plus the price gets very silly and your reasons for not just going for a Panasonic plasma get very slim.

Actually i'd be happy with 46". Its just that the Sharp NZ website only had this model that was 46" or larger.

While it seems that it is an older model, the whole 3 year warranty and Made in Japan does come across as rather "comforting" compared to 99.9% of other 1year non-japanese hdtvs.

I did ask Harvey Norman about the Quattron but apparently NZ will only get the 40" model for now and nothing bigger.

Basically atm I have to decide in getting a Panasonic Plasma V20 and risk potential rising blacks or get a Samsung Plasma S7000 and risk potential "humming".

The Samsung Series 6 46" LCD did get very good review but the only downfall was its gaming lag in several reviews. I'll probably just hire the most "twitchy" xbox360 game I would normally play and test it on that LCD. Guess its in the eye of the beholder.

The V20 plasma would be the best bet bang for your buck and yeah the Samsungs are shocking "Hummer/Buzzers" nice and slim but are more prone to screen burn than the panas as well.

I wasn't impressed with the Quattron extra pixel I think its another gimmick to try and drag out LCD for a bit longer.

Oh and wouldn't worry about the black levels on the pana plasma's unless you have superman eyes.

Iv sold a fair few Tvs in the last 5 yrs, we only ever sold a few aquos tvs, im sure the newer ones are better than the older ones. With the introduction of 100 and 200 Htz Motion flow, motion plus or whatever the varied manufacturers call it. Im still a firm believer that the Sony LCDs are right up there for gaming. The KDL55EX500 in particular if LCDs are your thing. Not a bad price, some stores are sellin it for $2500 if you look around. Yes plasmas are generally better for gaming, but I also believe that the LCDs provide brighter colours and a fuller immersion into the gaming world.

If a manufacturer offers more than 1 yr warranty on their tv, well quite frankly that wud worry the hell outta me. Is this the only way they can sell their product. If your worried by an extended warranty. Also I just bought a THP50V20z. 50" V panasonic wow what an amazing tv colours are so vivid and the anti glare coating really does work plus the wireless streaming of skype, you tube and picasa is brilliant. The USB recording is great but will only record off the RF.

I personally think there's a reason why the 55" Sony can be scored for $2500 (other than Noel Leeming 20% off sales). It has some of the dullest colours I've seen on a big panel for a long time.
I was looking at it next to other similar sized LCD's (LG and Samsung) the other day and it looked dull as hell. Still it's a LOT of panel for not much $'s!
Still - quality wins in the long term for me... and that TV seems a bit plasticy / poor performing for my money.
