Hi

Im looking to buy a new stereo and want to make sure I get one that fits my purpose.

I'm wanting to be able to play my tv sound through it, and also plug my motorola android into it so I can play music off my cellphone through the speakers.

Can someone please tell me if most stereos these days will have these feature, or what specifications I need to look for? and also what extra cords I will need to buy to enable me to do both these things.

So by stereo, do you mean 2 speakers + a DVD player built into one unit?
Or are you looking for a 5.1 Home Theatre system? Either a 'home theatre in the box' unit, or a proper component setup?

Thanks for the reply.

I think im after the first option, im only keen to spend 500 or so, im not keen on anything to hardout just need something to play music louder than my computer speakers and also my tv sound isnt really cutting it so wouldnt mind improving that at the same time.

You can pick up a perfectly good basic JVC or house-brand microsystem unit from most appliance stores for around $200-$300ish that will have an AUX input.

We got some orphan brand one from Harvey Normals for $179 for the bedroom which works surprisingly well, plays CD's, DVD's and takes both an AUX input from the TV and a 3.5mm input from another device as an input. It won't amaze anyone with the quality, but it's more than adequate for listening to the TV at a decent volume with.

You can even plug a USB stick into it with MP3s, JPGs or AVI's on it and it'll play those, most of the time.

$500 would get you a pretty reasonable one if you wanted to go that route.

I highly recommend the Logitech Z623 you're after something without HDMI inputs.

Incredible audio quality and presence from a pair of bookends + sub, THX certified and plenty loud at 200W (RMS).
For inputs there are 2 x 3.5mm and 1 x RCA.

All for under $200.
