ferely easy question to which i do not know the answer.
i am going to upgrade my memory from 1Gb to 2Gb.
now how will i know if the extra gb works, will i just have to assume
by increase in speed or will i get a message?

you should be able to see you computer state 2GB ram in the POST screen (bios output, before the OS boots). Also once windows(*) boots, you should be able to start up task manager and see the "Physical Memory" on the "Performance" tab change from 1GB to 2GB (probably 1024mb to 2048mb)

Depending on what apps you were running before, you may or may not see a speed increase. Typically 1GB to 2GB does see a performance increase though.

If you are running Vista, or Windows 7 then i'd suggest upgrading to 3GB or 4GB if your motherboard can take it.

(*) windows i'm assuming here cause you would prbably have posted in teh apple forum for an apple, and wouldnt have asked the question it if were linux)
