hi guys,

im considering buying a laptop
and am interested in people's thoughts about where you can get the best deal
i see a lot for sale on trademe and ebay, but are there actually good deals on there? or would i better to just buy a brand new 1 from harvey norman/noel leeming etc?

For the prices I've seen some of the new laptops on Harvey Norma and DSE it is worth paying that and getting the original warranty.

Remember, laptops are very "mobile" and can have problems with components being moved and dragged along, etc. A warranty is always good with these things.

What about dead pixels on LCD? What warranty would you have on an item of eBay or Trademe? And what about bad sectors on hard disks? All this needs to be considered...

I recently purchased an Acer from Dick Smith for my wife. It cost about $1200 and has DVD reader/CD burner plus built in WiFi. I thought it was good deal although the battery only lasts about 1 hour.

those acers are quite good.

my best buy was a packard bell easynote from bond and bond for $1279 + $200 from dse to upgrade the ram to 768MB.

very impressive performer for a budget laptop (AMD XP-M 2400+).

I sold that when work supplied me an Acer which i am moderatley happy with (too big a case)

I was browsing Trademe too, to see what they have and sometimes you can get a good save on brand new laptops with warranty. I will not say on half price, but couple of hundred dollars for sure.
