Why do so many people on this forum have SO many issues with their notebooks?

NOTE - despite the apparent "I hate acer" theme on this forum, mine ALL still operate perfectly.

I currently have 10 or so here and have NEVER had a single hardware failure (batteries excepted). The first was purchased in 1988.

I have never had the requirement of any support service so I can't comment on their competency. I must have been very lucky.

The acer 211 served me well on our 2003-6 3 year motorhome Australian 85000km holiday running 12+ hours/day up front as our navigator and is still in use in our Hiace campervan.

In no particular order:

1 - Sony VAIO Z 50 S

2 - KTX 1000

3 - acer TravelMate 630

4 - acer TraverMate 211TXV

5 - Toshiba A70

6 - acer Aspire 5740G - 14 months old and never off

7 - hp Compaq nc4200

8 - acer TravelMate 210

9 - Toshiba T-1200 (1988)

10 - Panasonic Toughbook CF-M34

Even my 1983 Microbee CP/M 32k CMOS RAM PC runs without fault.

And my PDAs and my GPSs and my phones and my TVs and my VCR and my PVRs and my PCs all still work.

You unlucky people.

have had an Acer Aspire 5920G with so many problems over the last 3 years..LOL... its probably spent more time in the repair shop getting fixed (luckily I brought an extended warranty) but now the motherboard is starting to die

You get what you pay for I think :)

If you buy a Timeline or TimelineX series Acer you'll have little to no problems and have high end graphics on most models. They are well built compared to the cheaper Acers

I agree they do need to get better in terms of quality control and so on, but IMO they are still a lot better than the Dell business laptops...although that might be because I have to deal with around 5-10 failed E6400/E6410s a week(Mostly failing: HDDs, Ram parity errors, overheating)

I have moved across the ditch. Now residing in Melbourne as a VOIP/Video Technical Trainer/Engineer.

I find this strange, because we deal with Mac laptops also and we do get a few repaired(with usually long wait times, might be different in the US in terms of waiting)

Apple % needing repair 16% yet they have the highest rated reliability(Guess due to the consumers being the ones giving the scores out)
Dell at 23% would be by far the worst, but we get pretty fast service here, about a 2-4 hour turnaround on repairs usually, maybe overnight in the part is shipped in from Auckland
