Hello, please help me,

I once had my internet through Telecom and now I don't. that's fine, what's not fine is the fact that I started a flickr account with them many years ago (2009) and now my xtra/yahoo email address has expired and I cant access or edit my flickr accout, I can start a new free flickr account by signing up with a @yahoo.co.nz email address but I cant change my new email address to be the login for my old flickr account.

 

I can pay $20/month to Telecom to keep my old @xtra.co.nz email address by why should I do that when I can get a free @yahoo.co.nz

this is a rubbish system, I don't care if I don't receive the whole flickr pro features, I just want to retain my ability to change the licences etc to my old photos.

Arghhhh

Have you contacted flicrk and asked them to resolve it? Was quick and easy for people I know who were moving away from xtra and couldnt change it themselves online.

Just had an issue with my Flickr account being locked. The only way to resolve the issue is to contact flickr support.

What is the best way to contact them? I've tried a few methods but had no response as of yet

Look it from Yahoo's perspective. How can they know for sure the user behind @xtra.co.nz is the same as the user behind @yahoo.co.nz account? They can't. And they can't give ownership of content to someone else. 

The only way of having this done well is to change the email address BEFORE your @xtra.co.nz account is closed. The logic behind it is that if you have access to the account then you must be the owner.

I am sorry, not a solution, but a warning to anyone else thinking of moving away from an established email address. The best solution is to use a neutral, non-ISP email for online services.

Exactly, reactivate the telecom supplied xtra address, sort out moving all your services and then close it down again.

Well it turns out Flickr are better at helping than telecom/xtra, I just received the following email

and it worked!!

 

Thank you for contacting Yahoo Flickr.

 

 

 

 

I've reset your Flickr account, which will allow you to change the login ID associated with it.

 

 

 

Before we start, it's imperative that you navigate to the link below (simply logging in from Flickr's homepage will not work):

 

 

 

 

a-special-link

 

 

 

 

After you've accessed the link above, enter the following email address and temporary password:

 

 

 

 

Email: myemailaddress
  Temporary password (case sensitive): password

 

 

 

 

You can now change your login ID associated with the Flickr account:

 

     

  1.  

    Click GET IN THERE.

     

  2.  

    Click the Get started? button.

     

 

You'll have the option to use an existing Yahoo ID or create a new one.

 

 

 

Use an existing Yahoo ID:

 

     

  1.  

    Click Sign in with an existing Yahoo ID.

     

  2.  

    Enter your Yahoo ID and password.
     - Important: Ensure that the Yahoo ID you select does not already have a Flickr account associated with it; otherwise, that account will be left as dangling with no way to access it again.

     

  3.  

    Click Sign in.

     

  4.  

    Click OK.

     

 

Create a new Yahoo ID:

 

     

  1.  

    Click Create a new Yahoo ID for this.

     

  2.  

    Enter the requested information.
     - Your Yahoo username will be your new Flickr login ID.

    Click Create Account.

The flickr process needs to be entirely with flickr/yahoo. Telecom have no control over your flickr account only to enable or disable your main xtra account. As everyone has already said contact flickr and they should eventually sort it.

Well of course they are.  It's their product 

I imagine Flikr are a lot better than Mercedes, Fonterra, ASB, Vodafone, Genesis, Vero, Tower, Sky City, Sky TV....... at supporting Flikr. (the clue is in the name.

The thing that pissed me off most with Telecom was that when I phoned them to say I wanted to shift my flickr to a free @yahoo.co.nz account they said that it wasn't possible and that I would have to pay the $20 to keep my @xtra.co.nz which was the flickr login, either they Lied to me or they don't know their stuff

In other words, I'm inclined to believe the CSR simply doesn't know it's possible.

Or they were right in that you were asking them to move something to a free yahoo account which it is not possible for them to do and the only way they were able to keep your flickr account operation was to put it against a $20 a month telecom internet account.

I actually phoned them twice and specifically asked. "is there any way I can get my Flickr account transferred to a new free yahoo email address" the first person said that I would need to pay the $20/month to keep my existing xtra email address active, I said "wow, no wonder T-coms make so much money, $20/month for something that is available free from yahoo themselves " to which she said that they have to pay yahoo for the email service and the cost is passed on to the customer. I informed her that maybe they should look into getting the free Yahoo email service that is available to everyone else.

Anywho, my issue is now solved so I don't need to worry any more.
