OS Widoze XP
Application Outlook Express 6
Subject Work Emails not sending "recipient not recognised by server" (SMTP>send changed this a little)

Has been in effect Yesterday the 13th Oct and still today

going to assume its to do with "important changes please change your email settings now" http://a.smartmailpro.com/webv/g5habgdsgg [hopefully the online version of the email works for you people]

so I was slack & left SMTP.xtra.co.nz

  • All you need to do is change your outgoing mail settings from SMTP.xtra.co.nz to send.xtra.co.nz.

switched it to "send" just now and now nothing happens, just Outlook express asking me for my login

any help please before I torture myself and ring the help line

If you have any questions, visit www.spark.co.nz/smtp or call our dedicated support team on 0800 800 011. They can talk you through the changes at your end and answer any questions you may have.

failing that is there a specific combination of setting to let me send emails from my antique box without headache of setting a new machine up

jared

false edit, hit another authentication setting, seemed to fix sending but now I cant receive/even check mails without and error

what is the default port? currently has 995, unchecking box sets it to 110 POP3 etc

There are pretty good instructions on their website, but when you change to SEND.xtra.co.nz, you need to change to SSL, and Port 465. You also need to use authentication on your outgoing server.

Thus proving that no matter how much you communicate, there will always be someone who doesn't get it.

Actually I felt the communication was horrible. The letter my Mum got was all over the place with no page of settings just lots of pr waffle. Took ages to find all the settings for my mums (made worse had to get working with her ihug email and she uses Eudora). If you use a 3rd party email you also need to login via Yahoo mail and authorize the email address.

If you use a third party email, you should be using the third party's email servers really, not sparks ones. The authorizing thing is a PITA and it seems to still not send sometimes even when authorized. The whole service is flakey at best. Ive moved most people I know off xtra addresses for good. Couple of holdouts among family but I just tell them tough when they call with issues.

She is on xtra for net and ihug for email only as the email address xtra gave her is horrible so she happily pays her $5 a month to keep the old one she has had for 15 years. It can be done using "send" and I got it working you just need to jump thru an awful number of hoops.

Works so long as vodafone dont publish any SPF records for the ihug domain that end up blocking it. Not a good solution to send thru unrelated mail servers.

oh for sure

the worst part is navigating OE's maze of settings requiring about 40 clicks before I can test anything

managed to be able to send now & cant check/receive

"error cant logon using secure pasword authentication account blah blah protocol POP3, response '.' Port 995 Secure SSL Yes Error Number 0x800CCC18"

not exactly a newb but feeling like it right about now

At work I use a copy of Eudora 7 to access my Orcon email via Spark ADSL via port 110 and 587.  Since friday I have been getting on send to mail.orcon.net.nz or smtp.orcon.net.nz   via port 587 "Can't send to ''. The server gives this reason: '550 Your outbound settings are not permitted please refer to http://www.telecom.co.nz/ssl'."   which tells me to use the Spark settings  but to use them you need a  Xtra email account  which i don't want..  I have over the past month been now moving my email to the Outlook.com cloud  which works fine..
