Driving home just now lost a call in progress. Phone says no service for last 20 minutes. Restarted the phone and no luck.

Don't have another spark phone to test with.

Is anyone else down on the north shore or is my phone dead?

Yup, in the city on Skinny, texts not working properly. Message on Spark website, they are aware of issues on the network.

Spark's website says there is a major outage affecting mobile, internet, and landline phones.

That is too much Spark.....you are blaming network congestion as a result of the earthquake for the current serious outages around the country. New Years would generate a lot more traffic.

I could understand some localised parts or WLG where individual towers are over subscribed...but for this to mean users in Auckland are having their connections drop in and out.

Stop making excuses and trying to pull the wool over your customers eyes....

I wonder if the network also slows down when the moon gets closer to earth because of the increased gravitational force on the networking equipment

Panic calls take a lot more network resources than bulk SMS messages.

Plus I imagine people doing a heap of Snapchats of "LOL IN A QUAKE" and using up precious network resources on data.

Honestly, with these things the network becomes more loaded than you think - move on.

I could understand calls being dropped etc....but in this case phones in Auckland were connecting and disconnecting from the network. This sounds more like an authentication issue rather than overloading.

Same in South Auckland. Felt like New Years again except less crying.
