After trying (and failing) to reach our original provider to switch our plan to their latest offering I decided to make the switch to Bigpipe.
We are an existing UFB customer and followed the BP Guide to saying Goodbye. I opted to eat the 30 day cost and go for an ASAP changeover to minimise the risk of a household without internet by setting a future date for the changeover. The promo offer should equal that out.

The next morning we received an email from BP to say the change had been implemented. Picked up the TP-Link C2 and we were up and running. Speed was as promised and the various WiFi devices were all getting between 80-100 down. Comments on the C2; it runs hot and no wall mount option. Otherwise simple to setup and coverage is good. Not complaining at the price.

The other impact on going naked is we have said goodbye to our landline and a VOIP handset. Only mobile. Quite interesting the impact this has on friends and family given our age (very much a landline generation) This has been mitigated by introducing them to the Viber app.

Just thought I would take the opportunity to provide positive feedback rather than hit the forums with another complaint/rant.

Just making sure - you still need to contact your current supplier.

Whilst, in theory, they should know about the switch, very often the process doesn't work properly and so they may just keep billing you until you let them know.

If viber doesn't fully meet your needs, 2degrees offer a landline number on your mobile for $20pm.

2talk can do VOIP that looks like anyone else to a landline for $10/month, or free with no local number.

Yes I followed through once connection was confirmed with 2 emails. One through the site and the 2nd as a reply to the billing email addy. I didn't get a reply or an auto-response so followed up with a phone call today. I'm expecting if anything should go wrong, it will be this part.

If viber doesn't fully meet your needs, 2degrees offer a landline number on your mobile for $20pm.

Thanks for that! Didn't know about the service and my wife is 022.

You can have naked broadband and Voip at the same time, can't you?

Once we have our UFB up and running, I'd like to look at saving $20 a month by going to naked bb.

Yes you can. Our past experience with VOIP/Genius meant we were in no rush to give it another go. Family and friends were so use to not reaching us on our land line/VOIP, I thought getting rid it of it altogether wouldn't be a big deal! :)

Mine's $11 / month with local and some international calling to main counties.

Yes. Had naked ADSL with BP and 2Talk, recently swapped to BP UFB when it was available and 2Talk VOIP naturally continued to work fine.
With 2Talk, and all other VOIP providers, you can easily forward incoming calls to mobile(s) too.

I also have signed up to BigPipe UFB in Christchurch but yet to be installed. Have purchased a C2 and currently using it with a Huawei Adsl modem/router which is far from perfect but it does better wifi than the huawei. I noticed the 5ghz seemed to disappear and reappear alot. I wont be able to know how it works fully until the UFB is installed. Good to hear of your experience with it

When I first started thinking about VOIP, I saw many comments about the ability to forward incoming calls to your mobile and hesitated about the potential cost.

Luckily I quickly worked out that by putting Zoiper on my Android, all calls to my 2Talk home number (provided I have a data connection) will also ring on my mobile at no cost and can also be answered from there, as well as our telephone handsets.

This has been a godsend with one seriously ill family member now able to immediately get hold of us at any time of the day, wherever we may be. Just to reinforce this, you do not need to forward calls to your mobile - you can set your mobile up as a telephone extension. I assume this works worldwide.
