Hi,

My wife has been careless, leaving her phone in a bathroom in Auckland Airport. She went back within 5 minutes, its gone. Nothing has been handed in at all - she checked.

Is this https://support.skinny.co.nz/article/lost-or-stolen-device-or-sim-101.html all we can do? I,e. block the SIM. She is on prepay.

I thought we could block the actual phone IMEI too? We have the box here so know the IMEI.

Does it not have a lock screen and "find my iPhone" (or android equivalent) to locate it?

Yep it does. But wife is a technical doofus, in Auckland, about to board a flight. Waiting for her to get home to login to google etc.

OP could login to icloud to find her iPhone but that won't necessarily bring it back. It could well be in Nigeria by now.

It's gone, dont bother with the IEMI lock as its probably off to get its guts harvested for the phone repair kiosk wherever it ends up.

Thanks all.

  1. Blocked Skinny SIM.
  2. Logged out and blocked via Google.
  3. Blocked the IMEI via Skinny.

Not sure why my wife is so careless :(

Every so often I laugh at someone and then within a week or two the same thing happens to me. Eg I commented that a female colleague's new car has dents everywhere! Then I did it to mine. !!!

It happens, to all of us. Even to the best.

I do hope the phone was not too expensive, or at least insured?

OP get it IMEI blocked as well. It will take 2 seconds to do and it means in the more likely scenario that someone plans to sell it as it they will have a harder time doing so.

It's already done. New phone is ordered and wife is currently using a $20 prepay skinny phone which is making her miserable, right at a time she has a need for taking photos (mother in NZ for a week) which she would normally do on her phone.

Sony Xperia X2 - I guess expensive enough to leave a sour taste in mouth. And is insured, but won't be bothering to claim, replacement was only $500.

I have had people poke fun at me for doing the wallet-keys-phone pat test every time I stand up. This thread has just reinforced for me to keep the habit going.
