Hi all

 

I was wondering if there is any specific reason to use the HG659B on Spark Fibre?

 

Is it like 2 Degrees where they can dial in remotely to check the settings etc?

 

The HG659B seems sluggish to me compared to running the Fritzbox 7490.

with the HG659b yes we do have remote ACS capabilities.

 

 

 

This is simply used to push software updates and in the case your having issues the assure team (with your permission) can make a limited amount of modifications.

 

Spark have no requirement to use the HG659b, but it's good to have it handy should you have a fault.

 

 

 

Voice is provided from the ONT not the RGW.

I've had UFB issues for a few days, having the Spark issued router has been handy since that dodges all the support questions when you're using your own router. 

 

 

 

If you use the HG659B router then the Spark app can apparently test to your ONT and then 'see' the HG659B or not.

I finally got it to work dropping back to a Windows xp version of firefox. Only then could I see which pcs were connected etc.

 

 

 

IMHO it is a sub standard, cheap, unredicatable and slow router. I replaced all mine as spark offers no other support other than is your internet connection up? if it is then you will get more support from tplink, netgear etc than from spark and huawei so there is no benefit keepin that router.

Alot of the above problems are likely related to the 32 device limit being exceeded. As that seems to work based on total number of devices since last restart, rather than number of devices currently connected.

your Comments on devices are dulled down with bring support into the question.

 

Your issue appears to be relating to a machine problem, dropping back likely cleared out whatever plugin was causing issues.

 

 

 

Yes the HG659b is a bit dated at this point. It's nearing time for a replacement...

 

 

 

As i've discussed previously indepth with you, For you... i recommend our medium+ business offerings, they often sell you some very nice Cisco modems that are absolute beasts with failover etc.

 

The team that looks after that is a very well respected and expert team that go to the nth degree.

Support has to be one of the questions. If the router is slower and less capable than much other available hardware then the only reason to keep it is to ensure isp support is not compromised by them refusing to remote help as you dont use their official router.

The fritz with 2degrees is another example of us keeping the default.

Where support is not of concern i replace with other stuff ... that they wont even attempt to touch. Routeros based devices have kept wan and man systems running beautifully for years.

The client had been through the pain of isp pushback when using $400 plus routers.

The number called for help was the business line as youve advised. The response was 'not my problem' that the hardware supplied is sub standard.

The issue wasnt plug ins. Fresh pc never attached to router. Alternative browser (chrome / firefox) used. No response. Ive seen it before a few times and huawei have acknowledged it as an issue. Using xp based pc works. Dont know why. I suspect javascript or similar issues of flash security or the router is just so slow that it eventially responds after 10 minutes.


As for this support team. Where to find them as via business hubs is a dead end. Account manager support often poor unless you get the right person. They offer solutions that fail but still charge for the failed options

Sounds like you have only had offered the solutions for small business.

Sounds like you have only had offered the solutions for small business.


My clients range from 1 to 50 people. Most business in nz is small business.

To suggest it's slow IMHO is a bit like invoking Godwin's law in a debate - you immediately lose the debate.

 

The HG659b is not a router for a many business deployments, and yes it's not perfect.. But to suggest it's slow is complete and utter rubbish. It'll still beat many off the shelf routers hands down in terms of routing performance, and more importantly can happily sustain very high throughput figures with incredibly high PPS rates that would see many other routers that may be capable of routing Gigabit actually choke.

Its web interface is unresponsive and slow. Either the programming is crap or the hw substandard.

If its not for business deployments then why does spark inflict it on businesses?

The "Modem" is given away free on a Spark Business connection, you are totally at liberty to provide whatever device you see fit for your clients needs.

 

As for me, I typically provide Mikrotik's, they are one of the most flexible and programmable devices, and provide excellent throughputs, never had issues with Hex S or RB4011's on Gig connections.
