Hi,

I'm on skinny fibre and I'm experiencing DNS issues - websites either failing to fully load or the browser coming back saying it is offline. I thought it might have been the router so I checked on my phone (Skinny as well) using mobile data to see whether it was more widespread - everything works. I've updated my router to CloudFlare DNS and everything is now working perfectly. Is this a known issue?

Can you advise the DNS servers that you were using when you had issues?

I was using the DNS servers that are auto-assigned by Spark/Skinny - it started to occur late last night/early this morning. When using CloudFlare's DNS everything works ok. I don't have Private Relay enabled (I'm on a Mac).

no issues here with the default / auto supplied Skinny DNS

It wasn't occurring on all websites, it was primarily occurring on Apple's websites.

I don't generally have a reason to visit, but a quick look at apple.com/nz and a number of page links within don't pop up any issues.

Which part of the country are you in matisyahu?

Can you provide a particular web address that is not working?

I had this issue last night on Spark Fibre - I couldn't set up Apple Pay on a new computer (Mac), as it said the server was unavailable. I swapped over onto mobile data using my iPhone as a hot spot, and it instantly connected and verified. This was Spark Fibre in Nelson.

Snap. I had problems with iOS updates last night, server unavailable.

Spark Max Fibre using Mikrotik CCR1009-8G-1S-1S+, CRS125-24G-1S, Unifi UAP, U6-Pro, UAP-AC-M-Pro, Apple TV 4K (2022), Apple TV 4K (2017), iPad Air 1st gen, iPad Air 4th gen, iPhone 13, SkyNZ3151 (the white box). If it doesn't move then it's data cabled.

Are these issues ongoing, and can anyone provide a web URL that is not working?

DHL tracking website (https://mrt2.ap.dhl.com/ (url minus the package tracking), Apple web services (iCloud email, App Store etc). I've updated my router to use CloudFlare DNS - I'll just stick to using that.

Hi matisyahu, that website loads fine for me and DNS to the two Spark DNS servers also gives a fine result:

> server 210.55.111.1
Default Server:  ns2.xtra.co.nz
Address:  210.55.111.1

> mrt2.ap.dhl.com
Server:  ns2.xtra.co.nz
Address:  210.55.111.1

Non-authoritative answer:
Name:    e40514.a.akamaiedge.net
Addresses:  219.88.185.210
          219.88.186.175
Aliases:  mrt2.ap.dhl.com
          mrt2.ap.dhl.com.edgekey.net

> server 122.56.237.1
Default Server:  ns1.xtra.co.nz
Address:  122.56.237.1

> mrt2.ap.dhl.com
Server:  ns1.xtra.co.nz
Address:  122.56.237.1

          mrt2.ap.dhl.com.edgekey.net

Just so i can understand which physical DNS server you will be hitting, can you please advise which part of NZ you are in?

I'm also having the same issue, just with certain Apple DNS records which are returning SERVFAIL using Spark's DNS servers.

PS C:\Users\xxx> nslookup speedysub.edge-itunes-apple.com.akadns.net
Server:  pi.hole
Address:  192.168.1.250

*** pi.hole can't find speedysub.edge-itunes-apple.com.akadns.net: Server failed

It looks like 210.55.111.1 is the issue, 122.56.237.1 works fine

Just tried to access this now in Nelson. Server not found.

Turned off Wi-Fi and instantly connected via Spark mobile network.

Restarted browser and rechecked on wifi. Still unreachable on Spark fibre

My smart modem records that it is pointed at the first dns server in the WAN settings and as above I am having issues in Nelson.
