I've sent out txts to 28 fellow golfers but have noticed that only those on 027 have received the txts while those on 021 are "pending'.
Is this a common problem, or is it just tonight? I've never struck this before...

Hi there is currently an issue where if you have delivery reports or delivery receipts turned on, on your handset, your SMS to Vodafone users may not arrive.
We are working with Vodafone to resolve this.
As a workaround you can turn OFF delivery reports or delivery receipts, through the handset settings menu. Most handsets have it under message options. Once turned off, SMS to Vodafone should be successful.

Seems that the Telecom help desk do not know about this yet.....their reply to me was very different from the messgae above and included the fantastic line "While Telecom does its best to ensure technical reliability of the interconnection, Telecom cannot offer any guarantee of message delivery to and from any mobile."

I guess this is just legaleese to stop people from suing them when messages do not arrive that may effect business decisions.

I know 2 XT uses who cannot text VF, and they only know because I told them thier texts had not arrived on my phone.

They probably have delivery reports on....

This is not an issue I would expect the helpdesk staff to be clued up on.

Telecom has always taken the stance that SMS is a best effort, and especially have always been hot on saying that inter-network messages may not always be recieved on the other end (but will still be charged for).

Anyone who relys on SMS, and simply makes business decisions based on non-delivery of such a message probably needs to take a long hard look at how they run their business.... or pick up the phone and say to the other party "have you sent that message yet...".

True on the business decisions comment.

Not sure why the Help Desk should not know.....how can they "Help" if they do not know about a problem that has been in existance since Tuesday evening? That is nearly 3 days!!

Trying to communicate by text as a primary method is common now, so common that peolpe would have a simple expectation that it will work. Unlike a phone call you have no idea however that your message has not got through. No one I have spoken to so far at either Telecom or Vodafone seem to care about this issue. Most SMS uses would not even know of this forum, and many will also not know their messages are getting through.

Interesting point on the charging for undelivered messages.....but I guess NZ Post does the same!

My point is the complete lack of communication on this isssue, which will be effecting 100's or maybe 1000's of folk who have no idea their message are not going anywhere.

It's not that there is a charge for undelivered messages, it's that when you send the message, it is billed, and once it leaves the message centre, they cant track or verify it if it goes off net.

Thanks for the information. I was able to resolve it with a support person on the phone, so clearly some of them are/were aware of the delivery reports activated issues. I have to say it's nice to talk to a local (NZ) person at Telecom support, rather than the fake American-accent Philipinos or whichever outsource they use these days...
