Please let me know what the speeds for ftp connections are like with bigtime.

I'm currently with Slingshot but they seem to heavily shape the ftp connections during the free off peak period.

If you do a lot of ftp transfers, what sort of transfer are you getting monthly?

Do you have an example of an ftp address that you want to know the speed of because it's going to vary depending on a whole bunch of factors.

i get almost full speed on national ftp 24/7
im not sure about international tho.

I get good speeds in my USA server for FTP but web is slow for HTML bit some times

At home on Big Time I get about 15 KB/s from that ftp using one connection, if I use a download manager with 4 segments/connections I get 60 KB/s.

For comparison from a local NZ based ftp at my work I get ~400 KB/s which is roughly the max my home connection can do given it's 4-5Mbit sync speed (no cabinetisation in our area yet).

Wow, that seems really slow. I use to be on Go Large and switched to TCL because of FTP speeds. Think I'll give Big Time a wide berth.

Also tested that ftp on my connection here at work 100Mbit Telstra Fibre and I'm getting variable speed from 50-100 KB/s so I suspect that host is actually just slow. Seems like it's hosted in the Netherlands?

Yes, it's in Amsterdam on a gigabit link.

Only 100KB/sec via fibre?
Not a good test link then :(

I'm thinking that it doesn't have good connectivity outside of Europe.
I've tried testing from the server by downloading from NZ ftp sites and only acheived 220KB/sec average.
The same for US sites acheiving only around 500KB/sec.

I routinely see transfers to the server of around 20MB/sec.
The quickest i've seen is 65MB/sec.
Of course those were to/from european servers though.

What ftp are you using? I can easily get 300KB/s out of Rapidshare premium, if your on Bigtime its definantly worth paying for a premium ftp, (current exchange rate puts it at $10 a month for 3 months/16.99 Euros)

Alot of ftp's are throttled from the server end to allow fair share of bandwidth allocation.

ftp speeds are heavily managed. I get about 15k per ftp download from .se .us .eu .kr etc . You can have a few running at a time and get up to around 100k total.

I've noticed that FTP speeds are heavily throttled as well. I have tested on my own servers and I can't get more than 50kB/s using multi-part downloading. The servers I am testing from have 10/10 and 100/100 connections and are completely configured by me to allow maximum performance.

I have yet to test them during the off peak period but I imagine there won't be much of a performance increase.
