Incredible that in New Plymouth there has been NO XT service for several hours that I know of.  I spoke to telecom who said it was a cell site replacement  from late last night that has gone wrong.  My response was "to switch back to the old one then"  At least i made the poor devil on the other end laugh but this is getting beyond a joke. This must be seriously hurting the XT brand. I will hang in there but my goodwill is starting to dim considerably. Errors like this simply should not happen!

New Plymouth must have more than one serving cell?

John

I would assume so. I'm told that the outage covers most of Taranaki but that is unconfirmed.

XT Service Issues
*
18 February 2010

We are aware that customers in New Plymouth and Upper Hutt may be experiencing XT service issues. Our technicians are working to restore full service.

If customers are still experiencing issues from the intermittent disruptions on the evening of Monday 15 February, we ask that you try resetting your mobile phone. You can do this by taking the battery and SIM card out of your phone while it is switched on, then replacing them after one minute. Should this be unsuccessful, please call us back using an alternative mobile or landline phone so that we can better assist you.

We apologise for the inconvenience.

All up and running again about 12 pm. I do feel sorry for telecom and the staff involved. This must be a trying time for them! But at the end of the day, they can't afford any more problems with XT. Perhaps the roll out was too fast and more time should have been spent on making sure everything was going to work as it should and keep working!

Just as an update, the cause of the outage seems to now be public so I'll post it here.

Telecom moved a handful of sites over to their brand new 2nd RNC in Christrchurch. These sites were in Upper Hutt, Wairarapa and Taranaki.

Overnight something went seriously belly up with this new RNC and resulted in all the circuits from each of those sites having to be restored back to the original RNC, a process that takes time.

It seems Telecom simply can't win at present..

Yeah also feel sorry for TNZ. First the initial outages, then the abusive CSR text, now another problem :(.
