Hi. I picked up the latest Telecom brochure for Prepay over the weekend. One nof the things I noticed was the offer for bonus credit was only valid to 30 September 2010 which is something I hadn't seen before. Any one know if this is actually a withdrawel of Bonus credit or more to do with a repricing owing the increase in GST? I notice all the Telecom special offers finish on 30 September which leads me to suspect it will be GST related.

Most telecom Offers have a shelf life of a month to two months, then they will or will not be extended, so it's no surprise to have a 'valid to' date.

Argh! I hope this isn't true. That increases my monthly bill by quite a bit.

Also are they allowed to just kill it like this? Anyone got some fine print saying they can remove the offer at any time?

I'll be doing about $200 in topups if this is the case. Probably one of the main reasons I'm on XT is the bonus data....

Looking through telecom's site, any time bonus credit is mentioned i dont see an expiry, or any kind of small print directly stating its for a limited time.
It came across to me as something permanent.

Telecom terms:

Topping up: You can add additional credit to your Prepaid account by using one of the methods outlined on our website. If you are topping up by using a card or voucher please note that these cannot be used after their expiry date. Once you add credit to your account you will need to use up that credit within six months. You must add credit to your account at least once every six months, otherwise your Prepaid account will be deactivated.

Changes to these terms: Telecom may change, add to or delete these terms, including adding whole new terms at any time. However, if the change is material, we'll give you reasonable notice

but seriously I hope this does not go, as $12 text extra would mean a $20 topup each month vs $20 every two months with $5 bonus.

Just to clarify my source for this . I picked up a brochure in Bond a Bond entitled Telecom Buyers Guide/ August September 2010 Discover Prepaid 0n Page 2 Under the Add it says the more you top up on One rate prepaid the more you get Free. It say Offer ends 30 September 2010. As this was the first time I had seen any reference to the bonus credit exoiring I thought I would raise a question if anybody new anything else about it? My guess is hat come 1 October it will rollover with an adjustment to cater for the change in GST

A scan of the brochure would help to ensure that there hasn't been a misunderstanding (e.g. T&Cs for another offer listed on the same page)

I would have also expected that XT One Rate Prepaid's Bonus Top up credit would be a permanent "feature" - it doesn't seem likely that the bonus credit should be removed since they have a shorter credit validity period (6 months compared to 1 year) and credit doesn't roll over on top up (or at least it was the case), otherwise XT One Rate Prepaid doesn't stack up too well compared to other prepaid plans.

that's not quite right I believe. credit only expires after six months if the account itself expires, which happens when no topup is made at least once every six months.

In other words, as long as you make a topup at least every six months no credit will ever expire.

If the bonustopup was going, but Telecom decided to drop their prices by 25% to make up for it (it could happen), then you could get a very good price by topping up lots of $ now (to get the bonus credit) then, as long as you keep topping up$20 every six months to keep the account active, when you come to use the credit you bought before you will get calls for 25% less plus the 25% bonus topup. It will be almost half price.

Credit validity of 6 months is still a valid point - you will need to top up a minimum of $40 per year to "keep your number", compared to $20 per year on 2degrees and Vodafone.

However, your post refers to the bit after the phrase you highlighted - the rolling over of credit. While I believe that was supposed to change, I have yet to find any evidence it has (please do correct me on this if I'm wrong.) I don't think it's too much of an issue as it won't affect most people ($20 over 6 months is $3.33 per month, excluding the bonus $5 credit as you don't pay for it)

I've already done it to keep my options open even though if I did move it would probably be to prepaid :)

My other phone is on 2 Degrees already.
