Can anyone tell me if the XT mobiles (AT&T etc) sold on trade me are as good, reception wise, as the local phones?

Just make sure the auction says they're unlocked before you buy it. Otherwise it wont work in NZ at all

If those are the specs these handsets will work on Telecom 3G, but on Vodafone and 2degrees as 2G only.

This is the type of phone i;m looking at.

I live in a rural area and I get a really good reception on the nokia 6120.
Other phones don't seem to be as good, signal wise.

Dont bother, been there, tried them, there is so much AT&T BS on the phones, and not everything is changeable on them to put NZ telco settings in.

Also lack of 2100MHz may be an issue for you in some locations.

If the person knows how to, they can flash the generic firmwares onto the phone. I always do that once the warranty is up.

Thanks for that.
I was wondering about the lack of the 2100MHz on these phones.

Trust me... I have a couple of AT&T handsets (Windows Mobile ones) and unless you know what you are doing it won't work. They lock down all the configuration, just entering the APNs don't make these handsets work.

Really, what's the advantage of buying an import 3G handsets that clearly will not have mobile access to the Internet.

That handset is a lemon.

I would love to know the customs policy that means that he cant have the origional packaging, would that be the "get out of paying GST policy" or the "They are not really new" policy?
