Yell I usually don't bother to post a rant, i just sort it out but i feel this has been earned and i am angry. I ordered a Samsung Galaxy 3 at NL on the weekend and got the discount so paid $919 (32gb version). After speaking to Vodafone on the phone twice before and since ( confirming my contract cancellation cost as $733 and availability of the phone on the same new plan) and this morning going into the Blenheim shop to reconfirm and check they had stock i went to Leemings and got a refund.

I then go back to Vodafone Blenheim to cancel my existing contract, pay the money and sign up on a new contract with the phone they have in stock. BUT no now it is we can't do that ( i thought u meant resign, despite me telling them it was a cancellation)  you will have to ring Vodafone and they will work out the amount BUT you will lose your phone number. The shop ring Vodafone and come back with the same story.  WHAT, this has gone unmentioned in 2 phone calls and a shop visit. It is MY phone number and has been for 15years or more and matches our old Wellington number which we still have and just isn't happening or viable.

So now i am out a discounted phone from NL, don't actually have the G3 phone and Vodafone want to take my phone number away to give me a new contract to get one. I will ring them up and see what story i get next but not til a bit later in the day i think.

Dousn't sound right to me, but assuming it is, then to get around this policy you can do the following:

1) cancel the contract and port the number to prepaid on 2degrees or Telecom.
2) go back to Vodafone and sign a brand new contract as a 'new customer' and port the number back from 2D/Tcom.

Don't do a Postpay to Prepay back to postpay migration on the same day or it will turn ugly

FYI end users do not own the mobile number

Why can't you resign and get the free phone?
Can't think why this wouldn't have the same effect as cancelling and new contract...

Hi Groynk, i can't resign as i am inside the first year of a 2 year contract. I don't have an issue with paying the cancellation fee just being told the correct story and not being messed around.

This may be resolved anyway and will post again later on today re that.

More or less resolved. I am now on a new contract with a Galaxy3 with VF. Not on the same plan as before, despite having been told on the phone by VF i would be able to i'm now on a smart data business plan rather than the Business Smart plan i had before, so less minutes and no free calls to landlines but i had enough arguing for one day!
And thanks to the Vodafone member on this forum who was able to suggest the way to sort things.

I should have known it wouldn't be easy to give Vodafone my money, why should i be able to walk into one of their own shops, pay the appropriate fee ($800sh) to resign a new contract and get an Ifone 5. Yes we have them here, but Oh no you have to ring up and do that we are only doing new contracts. It makes it much easier to move to Telecom especially as it will actually cost less.

The $800 is not a resign fee it's a termination fee meaning you want to close the connection
