We've got the new Vodafone TV service and are not able to get a full TV episode to record completely. After switching from several years on MySky with no issues, the W.A.F. is dropping rapidly since signing up with Vodafone.

I've found the Padding Buffer setting and have changed it from 0 to 5 minutes, but now it cuts off even more of the program. I would expect that the recording would start 5 minutes early and end 5 minutes after the end of the program.

Any ideas?

Hello... Our robot found some keywords in your post, so here is an automated reply with some important things to note regarding broadband speeds.

If you are posting regarding DSL speeds please check that

- you have reset your modem and router

- your PC (or other PCs in your LAN) is not downloading large files when you are testing

- you are not being throttled by your ISP due to going over the monthly cap

- your tests are always done on an ethernet connection to the router - do not use wireless for testing

- you read this topic and follow the instructions there.

Make sure you provide information for other users to help you. If you have not already done it, please EDIT your post and add this now:

- Your ISP and plan

- Type of connection (ADSL, ADSL2, VDSL)

- Your modem DSL stats (do not worry about posting Speedtest, we need sync rate, attenuation and noise margin)

- Your general location (or street)

- If you are rural or urban

- If you know your connection is to an exchange, cabinet or conklin

- If your connection is to a ULL or wholesale service

- If you have done an isolation test as per the link above

Most of the problems with speed are likely to be related to internal wiring issues. Read this discussion to find out more about this. Your ISP is not intentionally slowing you down today (unless you are on a managed plan). Also if this is the school holidays it's likely you will notice slower than usual speed due to more users online.

A master splitter is required for VDSL2 and in most cases will improve speeds on DSL connections. Regular disconnections can be a monitored alarm or a set top box trying to connect. If there's an alarm connected to your line even if you don't have an alarm contract it may still try to connect so it's worth checking.

I recommend you read these two blog posts:

- Is your premises phone wiring impacting your broadband performance? (very technical)

- Are you receiving a substandard ULL ADSL2+ connection from your ISP?

I don't know the answer to your question, but I'm interested in what happened to your mysky box. Did you have to take it back to sky yourself? Were you able to transfer recordings over. (Bit of a long shot on that one I know)

Hi Amanzi

Try deleting then recreating the series links since you have changed the padding.

Cheers.

That was going to be my next move. Just out of interest, would your response had been different if I had said UFB?

This is not a faulty set top box. Please see my post above.

Sorry, somehow missed your post. This was a series recording so I'll try your suggestion tomorrow. Thanks.

I need to drop it off to their office on Tennyson Street. We didn't have anything of importance on there so not worried about losing recordings.

With the way that TV1/2/3 manage somehow to be running so far off time then sometimes even a good padding buffer won't help you!

They do this on purpose I might add...

Had ours for just under 2 years, pretty much always done this.

Doesn't matter how much you set the padding too, always cuts off the last few minutes. Thought it was a scheduling issue for a while (program runs 2 mins late, tuner switches to another channel for another program) but I've observed it happen where there is only 1 item to be recorded in that timeframe. Does NOT just happen on FTA channels either so don't see it being a TV1/2/3 issue either. Much worse at doing it than MySKy ever was, which tends to suggest it is in fact a Vodafone issue.

I've never bothered complaining too much because it's "Free" but if I were paying for it I'd be pretty unimpressed. Sure as hell won't be paying for it once contract runs out soon.

I have had mine over 2 years and I never have an issue with it now.  I have got a padding buffer of 10 minutes (I founds so shows regularly run longer than 5 mins).

It's a bit of a pain that the 10 minutes is added to the beginning too.  This should (IMO) be a separate setting so you can add a minute or two at the beginning.

Make sure you delete and re-add any scheduled recordings or series links though.  The setting is not dynamic and is applied at the time the recording is scheduled.  So any old series links or scheduled recordings will still always apply the old setting.

Cheers
Kirk.
