So, after my ADSL2+ upgrade to VDSL and Cable failed I'm back at trying to optimise my ADSL2+ line. I've searched geekzone and google and found a lot of suggestions but...
I have removed the filter (naked so not needed) and cut all the wires to unused extensions (all but the Modem). All this seems to have made zero difference (the attainable rate went up but the Rate only marginally). I also tuned MTU and other minor things.
What I see in my HG556a is the following:
Link Power State:
SNR Margin (dB):
Attainable Rate (Kbps):
Speednet shows me no more than 11Mbit down and 1Mbit up. And if I calc the SNR and Attenuation I should be at about the Attainable rate. So what's going on? Why am I stuck so low? Is that all comms overhead?
And what else can improve my speed? Go to a Draytek? Install a master filter? Or is Vodafone actually throttling ADSL?
I sure hope I'll get fibre to the property but hopes are not high atm (date for fibre is in the region classified as unknown).
So I hope someone has a good tip for me. The main thing I am looking for is more upstream.
