Does anyone know when we are likely to get Voda UFB in Christchurch. I am shifting shortly and Enable say that fibre is available at the new house, but Voda doesn't have any plans availa le and I don't want to downgrade from VDSL to ADSL.

Cant speak of future plans or alike.
What would be required is for Vodafone to agree upon a deal with Enable and for Vodafone to build network to hand off Enables network. These things take a bit of time. One day it might come :).

Can't get cable? What area are you moving to? Have you checked Chorus's map?

It is not a Chorus area. Fibre is available but Vodafone has not yet come to an agreement with Enable, the local network company.

I have to say here there are plenty of other far superior fibre operators in chch, I'm happily with snap internet for instance.

Enable is owned by CCHL (the investment arm of the CCC) and one would think that CCC is pushing for bigger returns from CCHL to fund its debt so one would then assume why wouldnt Enable make an agreement with VF, but the reality is that I suspect Enable signed long term exlusive deals with the likes or Orcon and Snap to provide UFB over the enable network and until those agreements come to end… VF wont get a look in.   If the CCC have trouble selling off its silver to fund debt, I guess they can always pressure CCHL to sell off enable at a profit (but they are perhaps forcasting a better return long term by holding onto it, as is with the electricity lines company Orion which is also owned by CCHL.

In other news, CCHL owns stakes in the ChCh Airport, Bus Company, Port Company, Roading and Construction Company CityCare etc etc etc….      At the end of the day these companies are all making a profit for the residents of Christchurch...

Tin foil hat much?

Telecom also has agreement with enable btw.

Suspect the main reason Vf is dragging the chain in chch is because of the extensive cable network they already have there. Why sell ufb at low margin when they can sell cable at very very high margin...

I'd be extremely surprised if this were the case - CFH specified that UFB networks are open access as part of co-investing in them.

Vodafone may have a cable network in Christchurch, but it only covers about 60% of the city. So not much good for those of us in the area not coverd.

I've asked VF this question numerous times over the last 18 months. Been totally fobbed off with excuse after excuse. The CSR I corresponded with even told me it was Chorus dragging the chain on getting an interconnection agreement signed. Only thing is...Rolleston is covered by Enable, not Chorus. There own staff have no idea what is going on. It's a joke. Just in the final stages of getting our home network sorted then we are signing up with Snap. Have been loyal VF customers for years, but enough is enough.

If voda are giving the run around, why wait? Plenty of good ISPs in NZ, I'm sure someone does your area by now.
